Laid off/ let go via email today!
« on: January 27, 2009, 01:10:15 PM »
YAY!

Looks like I am among the unemployed.

My ex-employer should burn in hell.

a big ^%# YOU to Mark Smith, and Bonzai Sports.

Douchebag is even trying to duck out on paying unemployment for me. Glad I have good friends who are lawyers....

All NoVa people, please do not patronize this shop.

I do love to blame G Dubya for the ills of the world, but this one has nothing to do w/ him. My ex boss is going through his annual panic about the costs of running a high end bicycle shop, and figures he can find a kid to do my job (service manager, head mechanic) for a lot less then the $45k a year he pays me. I wouldn't want to be the pro triathlete that rolls a badly glued tubular tire in Kona because this tool hires a 16 year old kid to wrench for him.

On the plus side, my wife works for Citibank so you know her job is stable (NOT).

Anybody wanna buy a few vintage road bicycles, classic Campagnolo parts, or parts to rebuild/restore there childhood BMX bike? LMK as I might have what you need, and it seems I need $$$ pretty bad right now.

this sucks

Bush will never answer for it. Somewhere, someone will block for his ass. Though the UN thought about going after bush but the UN cant ever seem to decide on anything but maybe this will be a first! I'd like to see the UN give bush a donkey punch, metaphorically speaking! ;D

In times past, 1 country's economy did not effect another's, not so anymore obviously.

Drew, hate to hear you bad news. Seems no one actually wants skill craftsmen, that's the reason
everything is going to hell in a hand basket. If I had the bucks I'd be asking about some of those
classic bikes cause I'd sure like to find a Paletti like I had in the 80's. Best of luck! Robert

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Robert- If you need and Campy Record, Super Record or Nuovo Record bits to build that dream bike again, LMK before I ebay a bunch of stuff I have squirreled away, I would happily set the bits you need untill your situation was better and give a "bro" price. First up will probably be some 50's era campy bits I have and a late 60's  Record track grouppo because that &^$* sells for stupid $$ these days.

They let six or eight go at my place last month, gave us all 10% pay reductions until April (except now until 'the end of the year') and are dunking six more by the end of the week.

being in IT, I get to know who's going about a week early so I can avoid making eye contact be ready to close their accounts when they get their two-second notice.

I think I'm safe for now... sorta.

Bender-
The Haro's came a little bit after my time BMX wise, The 2 NOS frame and fork sets I had I sold 3 years ago to a friend for a lot less then they were worth.

No Trickstars, but I do have a good collection of Hutch small parts (no aerospeeds, and you cant have my Beartraps..) so LMK if you need any small parts.
Checkout my website link and look through my BMX bikes and LMK if any of the stuff interests you.

Man Drew...  Laid off by email?  What a spineless weasel you worked for.

Sorry to hear your joining the growing ranks of the unemployed.

My company just laid off 1,200 world-wide.  I'm very happy to remain employed there -- I actually love my job.

Best of luck to you!

No but I have a buddy with all the stock Schwinn bits you could ever want, LMK what you need/want.
I love the old Schwinns, but I can only collect so much stuff, ya see. I am a completist type collector so smaller brands appeal more since I could never afford or house a complete Schwinn collection. I have a Stingray framed early motorcycle bar/ bread loaf seat style "Joe Kid/On Any Sunday" style BMXer in the works, but thats not for sale.

I loved my job too, just hated the asshat I worked for.

I will be hitting my local Honda shops for jobs this week. I refuse to work a job I am not passionate about, and have luckily been able to pull it off for like 20 years, but this economy, 2 kids, 2 cars, 2 mortgages, i MIGHT NOT BE SO LUCKY THIS TIME.

Might be time to stay at home dad a for a few months and head back to school nights.... welding classes are cheap and plentiful at my local college....

90% sure they are Ambrosio Durex rims, and Clement Futurox tubular tires they also have a close ratio NOS Regina Professional 5 spd freewheel installed. Very nice wheels, I rebuilt the hubs last year and they are perfectly true and round, they have been gathering dust in my garage hanging on my 1984 Pinarello Montello I have been hoping to have re painted and display in the office, but that is way on the back burner now.

That sucks! Especially getting done over by email, the gutless swine. I got laid off once years ago from a print company that at least had the decency to do it to my face. However it seriously pissed me off when they told the whole shift to "leave now." They were scared someone might drop a spanner in one of their multi-million $$$ presses!

And doing it by email is such a weasel way of doing it.

It was his, it's now mine.  Because of the bent pedal crank.  That and he has been driving for 7 years now, so he has little time for bicycles.  Maybe next week.  I volunteer on Tuesdays, and I have to take care of my Mom on Wed.  And then because I'm a house husband, there's house cleaning.

Where does the week go?

Man, sorry to hear about your job...

I checked out your site and almost put one of my CBs up on craigslist....  Talk about bringing back memories.  I had a tricked out Rampar and later a Diamond Back but the one I would have given my left nut for as a kid was the Skyway TA.  I still want one...  You have some beautiful bikes dude. If you ever come across a TA holler at me!
