71 cb750 cafe project ...
« on: January 27, 2009, 01:10:53 PM »
ok guys first off want to say a little about myself. im 19 years old this is my first bike build, im curently a automotive restoration major in mcpherson, ks. besides having my 71 cb750 i have a 73 mach1 mustang which is a full restoration and have resently bought a 68 f-100 as a driver for now. my first bike was a 00 R6 which i sold for my cb750 because it was to expensive to insure.
so my bike is a runing driving bike has about 30k on it with no rebuild runs good buit has pods which i havent got the jets quite worked out yet. i ended up puting 125 in it but still likes to run with the choke on partly so that needs some more work.i have just resently torn the bike down as a winter project so i figure i would post some progress on it so far and will show some other things i will be doing for others to see. the bike has clubman bars already and the rest is basically stock on it. so my plan for the build is gonig to be a everything except the motor for now and later when i get the money i will do a bigbore kit in it by mike hopefully. the  basics of the build will be a gold powdercoat frame with a custom cafe seat. both the seat and tank will be flat black. the bikes name is helter skelter so it will have that writen on the tank in highgloss black with a gold outline. the seat which i will make myself will have two 59 caddy taillights in the back of it frenched buckets. im also palning on runing gsxr controls as well as some aftermarket shocks. for around the $200 range. so far i think progressives are my best bet.

today i got the wiring harness removed from the bike and other nick nacks. but im having problems with the side covers and case bolts coming lose. so i was wondering if anyone has some advice what to do. also im geting ready to pull the motor and work on the frame. i was thinking when making my own pan i will cut the fender brace out and then weld in a straight piece for support. now i dont know if i will have enough tire clearance.
in one of my classes we were doing some casting and i ended up trying my gas cap. it was pretty diffuclt but i managed to get a bronze one to come out very good. it does need some work but it will be polished and put on the bike. im thinking of doing my oil cap as well. i did try a aluminum one and it had a blow through so i ended up painting that one.
