my Super Hawk
« on: January 18, 2009, 07:00:29 AM »
I've really been impressed by some of the beautiful cafe-style bikes shown on this forum.  I thought some might like to see a picture of my 305 from just over 30 years ago, when out on one of my Saturday/Sunday early morning runs on the cafe I had set-up.  This shot was a bridge on the twisty road that the Hawk and I used to own.  (For those from the area, its the east end of Finch in north Scarborough - still an enjoyable jaunt.)  I have owned the Hawk since the spring of 1966, when it was already 4 years old.  I still like to roar on it...it feels like so much an extension of my body.

Also, had a 66' CB72 250 Hawk back in 68' while in the U.S. Air Force in Northern Japan and I had a "Blast" on that one too! ;)

Here is a link to the best forum I have found for the Super Hawk.  It doesn't come close to SOHC4, but it is about all there is.

Good eye, Gerhed.  I customized the front hub back in the late 60's when I was at university and part of my mechanical engineering course gave me access to the machine shops.  I'm surprised they let me scarf some sheet aluminum and turn down two disks to mount around the brake hub.  It mounted over the spokes with spacers and screws.  I drilled it out to make it look somewhat like drilled disc rotors, which was my inspiration.  This was 1967/68 and only race bikes had discs on the front.  The CB750 was yet to come out, so I guess Honda maybe picked-up on my styling cue as well. :D  The other purpose, besides cosmetic, was to add more cooling capacity to the front brake.  I still have the pieces and was thinking I should put them back on.  (It would probably tie-in with the trunk now on the rear.)
