       You  know, you have some things going, that keep you from deviating from those things and taking advantage of a pretty good deal? Well, I'm in that position now. I'm not able to take advantage of what seems like a good deal. I've got this old 60's 250 Jawa that I hope to get around to building as close as possible to one my Dad built back in the early 60's. I haven't had the chance to go into the  engine in the bike I have (I know that it will have to have a primary chain, rebuilt top end and possibly lower also. probably piston, rings, rod bearings & piston pin bushing, gaskets/which I can make most of, maybe crank bearings and possibly trans bearings and clutch plates). But there is this 60's Jawa 250 engine on ebay that is starting at $350 and then there would be shipping costs. No telling what the thing will end up going for either. Thing is, it is said to start and run real well also.

     Here's the link and presently there's only about 5hrs left with NO bids.

   Yeah, very poor timing! ::)

        Well, "Time" is always seeming to be tight for some time now, with the possibility of getting s bit of that "after" the Guardianship Lawsuit of my Dad is settled. The money is what is really binding presently. With my luck, someone will kick in on that listing and run it up. The listing says that he could ship (costly I know because those engines weren't light) or it could be picked up at Daytona.   Here's what is in his listing:   "PICK UP IN PERSON IF YOUR HEADING TO DAYTONA."

I am in the exact position with a local suzuki 1100 DOHC early 80's bike. It is cheap but just not in the budget currently. Very frustrating.

       Well, I bit the bullet and told my Dad about the Jawa engine. It would be for the bike that I am going to try to build like one that HE did and it might just be the ticket to get him interested in sticking around this area for a while longer, and then he would be here to assist me in building this Jawa. 8) He just simply said, "Do you want it?" And, of course I do. But, I told him, that if folks started jumping in on it and the price went up, I wasn't going for it. I DO have the engine that is presently in it, but the primary chain is broken and it'll need to be bored, then there are whatever parts that will be needed. We'll just have to see how it goes. IF ( and that's a big IF) I DID manage to get it, I've got to figure out the best way to get it here. Wish there was someone from here that lived somewhere near me (within an hour or two) that was going to Daytona and could bring it back for me. I'll be back, gotta check on that engine.

       I gotta find out what that booger weighs. Managing to win the bid (no one else wanted it) on this engine, will give me the opportunity to (when I get the time) take the one I already had, apart and my Dad and I can go about modifying it like he did his back in the early 60's. And, I'm telling you that if we can get this one to perform like HIS did back then, that 250 will give a 500cc bike some trouble. I've never heard a 2-cycle sit there and sound like it was gonna die while idling and yet not even hesitate when you grabbed some throttle! But HIS sure did like that and there was no such thing as Reed valves and expansion chambers used back then. 8) ;)

      Now, I've got to get something set in stne about how I'm going to get it from Fla. to Arkansas. Gonna start a new thread for that!

        Thank you, and i is the same model engine. ;) And that is what's so cool about the whole thing. 8) Engine-wise, I'll be able to set that engine in place (when the frame is ready), wire it up (not much wiring and regulator is mounted on the generator, yes, it has a generator), put on the gas tank, hook up the gas line and exhaust, then fire it up. :) Well, yes also hook up the clutch cable and the chain. ::) Can't go anywhere without them, huh? ??? ::) There IS another model of that bike that has only one main difference I can think of. The exhaust pipes go into the exhaust ports and the mount nuts screw into the ports. On the other model, the exhaust pipes go onto the exhaust ports and the mount nuts screw onto the ports. Funny how that ONE change was made. ::)

If I was going to ship that, I'd go to an appliance store and get a good water heater box and cut it down.  They'll probably have some good styrofoam laying around, too.
Tape it up and take it to Greyhound.
You'll have to go to the station to pick it up, so bring help- unless you're REALLY strong.

          Yeah, I thought about that Frank, but with my kind of luck, someone would make off with it. ::) The thing besides the fact that it runs and is supposed to run really well, it is the EXACT same model engine as the bike. :o 8)

       I hear ya Uncle. I don't remember what that engine might weigh, but it IS pretty stout.

       I have no idea what the engine weighs, it's pretty heavy though. The seller is going to be out of pocket till Thursday. Only ways that I might can find out before then would be to pull the one I've got and weigh it, or maybe go online at Jawachat.com and see if anyone there could tell me. After all, all the old 250 Jawa engines weigh about the same. I'll see what I can find out. ;)

      Well, I heard back from the seller and he estimates that the engine weighs about 100lbs, now I'm not so sure that it weighs that much myself and it WAS only a guess. At any rate, he has given me his address  and he's on hwy one in Mims, FL. I just need to see what choices I have of getting this engine here. If it wasn't so far from Arkansas to Florida, I'd just go get it. I just can't swing a trip like that AND I don't want to get that far away from here, in case my Dad needed me for something.

Hey Bill, did you have any luck with shipping arrangements? I know you have had your hands full lately but would hate for you to miss out and have the guy sell it to someone else...

        Hey Dennis, well, the engine has been picked up from the seller (who has been very nice about this whole deal BTW) by Kirk (kirkn) who actually lives just 25 miles from the seller. He has it tucked safely in his garage til further arrangements are made. Now, we will see where we go from here. Just have to see how it goes from here. BTW, Kirk confirms that the engine does look pretty nice, turns over nicely, with compression and he doesn't hear any odd sounds. 8) Can't wait to get that sucker in the frame. Course, we've got some nasty weather (low temps and freezing rain now, Dad's Guardianship Lawsuit is Friday Jan 30th, gotta work on getting that frame ready and my

Darn Bill! On two fronts.... first of all because of the GI work being cancelled! Secondly, I am heading down to Florida in March but am taking the I75 down and back through the usual route with the family and can't offer any assistance (no room for the engine but more importantly not going anywhere near AK).

It is bike week down there during that period and if anyone is going through that way and wants to do a solid for a fellow member (and heck of a nice guy!) speak up on here!!!
