Topic: K8 clutch question for the clutch guru out there

First I do not want anyone to guess at the problem.  Please take no offence.  The clutch is adjusted properly.

When I have the cluth adjusted to the point where if I put any the slightest pressure on the lever it will slip,( adjusted this way for testing only)  I still feel the bike move when I start it (hot or cold no change) if I have it in gear.  The clutch will disengage after I move the lever 1 inch or less, so I am baffled why when I pull that lever back 2 more inches I feel this.  Is this normal?  What could do it?  It has been this way for 4000 miles.  So when I adjust it properly it feels the same.  My guess is 1 or two weak springs.  Who has seen this and what was the cause.  Unless my carbs are in perfect and I mean perfect sync it rattles like crazy.  I wonder if my problem is causing some of that also. I plan to replace the plates this winter but I am afraid new plates will be worse because they will be even thicker that the old ones.  Wisdom and experience needed.

It's not a big job to pull down the clutch.

Why don't you do it then measure the plates and springs to see if they are in spec. (don't have the figures with me cause I am at work) You will find the tolerances in the workshop manual.
Also check the plates are not warped, (this can be done on a sheet of glass, it's the nearest thing to flat that you will find).

Another thing to check is your cable, make sure it has'nt got a snag in it.
We had the same problem as you and bought a new set of springs and plates, only to find out the cable was fcuked.
Bought a new cable and now have the sweetest clutch you could imadgine, pull it in with little finger.

Sounds like you may have warped plates, unusual, or uneven springs, also unusual. possibly sticky fibre plates/rusty steel plates from standing or fibres impregnated with wrong oil. Sorry cant be more precise .

You might have something there.  Well I guess it's time to open it up and see what's going on.
