Actually, a donk is a car with big wheels.

No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

my buddies and i were in downtown STL and was passed by a "hoop-tee" with big wheels like the previous green car. funny to watch it jiggle at a stoplight from the drivetrain rubber-banding throughout the car. i'd laugh if they snapped an axle later on down the road.

Built a couple of these before. Sad to say they were for no one who rides a motorcycle that's for sure. There is some wild stuff out there for sure.

Actually it doesnt cost much more than lifting a truck.

You figure 10-12 inches of suspension lift = $1200
Most cases need either longer(from a truck) or custom driveshafts = $1000
Then there's brake lines = $300

And of course.... The most expensive part.....

Wheels = $3000-$10000 a piece or more for the giant custom ones. ($12-$40 thousand easy)
Tires = $500-$1200 a piece for the giant size and in some cases custom made.

I spent around $5000 total to lift and modify my truck's suspension not including wheels and tires. Those can get outrageous.

theyre not only running those stupid giant wheels so big you have to jack the car up, but "theme" cars are getting popular too. theres a jolly rancher car and a spiderman car and lots of others along those lines. 10,000 dollar set of wheels on a 1000 dollar car.

Around here it didn't take long for them to put lift laws in effect with 4x4s, waiting for them to start hitting them. Many I've seen are taller than trucks that were getting pulled over.

I've always considered cars as a form of expression, but I'm still trying to figure out what they are trying to express.....

10,000 dollar set of wheels on a 1000 dollar car.

$500 or cheaper basketcase. Tires, gaskets, replacement parts, paint, battery, carb kits, possible engine work, and on.

I think we know where this is going. ;D

We might think it is stupid but I bet they think our bikes are stupid. Different interests.  ;)

I do think the big hoops are stupid too though.

I remember the 70's in San Jose,Ca. had the low rider phase and then it went to hydraulics........first time I saw a car start hoppin' n' droppin'..............Damn!!!!....I thought I was halusinatin'(again!!!!).
Eldar is right........those guys probably think our bikes suck but I'll say this.....................I'd rather be out scootin' my 750 than to drive a POS like those. The $$$ they have into those cars would be WAY better spent by me(just my opinion!!).

You can get some hellatiously cheep 24+ inch knock offs if you look hard enough. We have a company in our rolodex in the way way back ( we don't even do the curtousey of filing them under a letter) and they will sell cheap knock off's of really expensive stock rims for $100. This is horrible. The stock rims from BMW, Audi, Honda etc. are already cast dirty as hell and it makes it damn near impossible to tig weld these knock off wheels are like pot metal. We had one come in the other day we were trying to fix a crack in it, could not even get the weld to stick to the damn wheel. Luckily we saved the guy some money once we figured out he had a cheap knock off. Why pay $155 bucks to fix a $100 dollar wheel?

Any way back to my point you can get what ever you want at a bargain, but you always get what you pay for. Like when my manager thought he'd be slick and buy the coil spring compressors from Harbor Freight and the crappy pot metal hooks snapped as soon as he got it down about an inch. Flew across the room into a refinished Porshe wheel. OOPS! Good job Tom. Haha.

$3000 car + $30,000 worth of wheels and tires + $10,000 worth of paint + $2000 in drive line and suspension = a $3000 car that is now tall, shiny and ugly.

you know, i didn't really ever understand the lowriders until recently, when i actually saw the culture behind it. plus in a lot of areas it isn't just a passing fad, its been going on for decades. i am still waiting for the "culture" to emerge from this one. there are a lot of vehicle genres i don't understand, like the "tuners", but then again most people in southern oregon don't understand my passion for classic BMW's.

whatever.

I just can't give in to some trends.  I have Buckshots on my 4x4 and standard wheel size on my Taurus.  Don't need or want to go that far with either vehicle.

I have to agree on this.  It gives the car a ridiculous toy like appearance.  I almost expect to see some Weebels behind the wheel.  They wobble but they don't fall down. ;D  I would feel like a total dumb ass to be seen in something so silly.

I own a 77 Monte Carlo.  It is a nice cruiser.  It has been in the family since new.  I would just as soon set fire to it as have it turned into a donk or dork or whatever the hell they call it.   It looks nothing like the lime green monstrosity at the beginning of the thread.
