Topic: float needles

Started digging in to the carbs today on my "73 750. Got to looking at the float needles at the wear ring where it meets the valve seat. first I ran my finger nail over the light colored spot and couldn't feel a ridge then I looked at it with a jewelers loop and could barely see a ridge.
Am I asking for trouble by reusing the float needles? carb kits sell for $25.00 ea. and the float valves sell for $17.00 each In my area and would like to put off buying them if possible.

After cleaning my carbs about a year ago (K0), I thought the smart thing to do while in there was install some Keyster kits.  After doing so and trying to get them tuned, I ended up going back to the stock float needles because the little spring loaded button on the end of the needle was much stiffer on the Keyster. I also went back to the stock high-speed needles because the Keyster needles had a more slender profile toward the tip making them run richer at the lower end of throttle openings. I have had no problems attributable to the reused parts, probably should have just skipped the Keyster kits altogether and just bought new bowl gaskets. Live and learn I guess.

There's a guy in New Zealand selling sets of 4 float needles and seats for about $25. I bought a set and they work just fine. Check him out on eBay. He goes by the name of 'nikau' A set for the cb400f is on with auction number 4580546943.
