I guess you can say, I put it out here for everyone as it is everyones, not just mine.  I just do what I need to do to allow this to keep going and try to make work.

The last two were wide open which led to the last one being one being two totally different classes of bikes and a wide margin of votes. So, this poll was hopefully a solution to resolve that one.  I know I can't fulfill everyones needs and requests but what else am I to do?

Your presence and effort is very much appreciated.  Please don't get me wrong on this point.  Somebody has to do it for the BOTM to remain alive, and I'm glad you've stepped up.  It's just my opinion that a radical revamping of the BOTM system is not really necessary.

i think it couldn't hurt to give this a try and if it tanks we still learn something. i think trying a different approach  seems reasonable considering last month. at the very least it creates renewed interest in botm.

Watchya think Gordon?  If it tanks, then this attempted solution wasn't necessary.  Stirring the pot, in a sence, once in a while might be good thing.  I dunno, I am still learning.

And Heff is back.  I am sure we will talk about next month.  He has run this thing far longer than I have.

We are all good, no worries.

Cafe-ish is the winner for this months nominations.  I will start a new thread for it today.  I am sure most of us have an idea what cafe-ish would be but I will try and come up with some minimum specs we can make adjustments to.  I know there was thread in the last month beating this to death.

Is there some kind of provision in place to make sure the same category doesn't keep getting picked several months in a row?

I know the voting closed already but I was thinking we should have a month to honor the bikes that have seen really high miles/a good proper road trip. It seems like BOTM is always centered around bikes that are ultra pretty and/or have had a lot of interesting work done. I say we honor the bikes whose only mission has been cart their owner around for hundreds of miles a day, the ones that are dirty but could tell the most interesting stories. Get what I'm saying? I know there aren't that many of them compared to other categories here but it would be an interesting competition.

Okay, I saw this as a choice in the voting for "style" (or whatever) and I just have to ask. Giga, are we really thinking about offering the Twins &/or Singles a shot at BOTM? It would be pretty decent since they are given a place to discuss them AND post builds and such. In my case, I hope to be building a Super Hawk and possibly one or more 450s and the forums elsewhere, that cover those 2 bikes, do not have a BOTM forum that would give recognition to them.  Nobody should have. Just a thought. ;)

Personally, I have no problem with it.  I tossed it in to add some flavor and bring some more involvement with BOTM.  Whether the other members here have a problem it, I do not know.

I filled in for Heff while he was away and now he is back.  Hopefully we can discuss it and come up with a decision.

I have seen many members on this site that have twins and singles.  So, we will see if this can become a norm or just a one off from a newbie BOTM mod.

Is this something the big kahuna Mods would wanna chime in for? I'm interested in reading differing takes on this.

Perhaps a singles/twins BOTM in addition to the regular?

I feel like a lone dissenter here, but I think that different categories for BOTM is a terrible idea. I like seeing different styles of bikes stacking up against each other. Some months it's an obvious choice for me as to which bike I like best, sometimes it's not. It's forced me to re-examine what it is that I really like about motorcycles, and I think that's a good thing. ;)

Having different categories seems to be heading down the path of the, "everybody gets a trophy" mentality. Bleah. Competition is a good thing! Besides, having all bikes eligible means that there will be more to choose from each month.

It also adds another link in the chain when it comes to nominations. Now we have to vote on the category each month, then go through the nomination process, and then vote on BOTM? Sheesh. Should we vote on the category or just randomly select one each month? Tough question...maybe we should vote on that too! :D I think the previous BOTM setup had plenty of voting.

What about if we simply had a SOHC4 AND "Other Bikes" BOTM as well? I WOULD like to see the "Ladies" bikes get recognition as well, but not sure just how to work that in. (And I don't want to just "single them out" or anything like that, it's cool that we have them in here and they definitely are a part of this place just as we are.)

Just something to think about. ;)

Generally speaking I agree with all of what you said. But unless I'm mistaken it seemed like there was a waning of responses lately and tweaking with BOTM seems reasonable- if just to shakes things up some. We can always return to how it was. I do think the 'other bike' category is worth considering in addition to SOHC but wonder if that should be classic bike only or what.

The debate over this is a good sign.

i'm thinking...

once quarterly or maybe semi-annually... leave it up to the voting membership, what we want that month's contest to be all about.

keep in mind, if it were quarterly... that would be 4 contests per year narrowed down to a specific style of sohc4, plus another month for bike of the year.  that would leave 7 months per year for every single sohc4/member to duke it out.

now that we're on the sohc4 topic... and this is an sohc4 forum no ifs ands or buts... bike of the month will remain sohc4 only.  this is really our only common ground here, and to disregard that would be treachery.

Loonymoon has a really nice 350F I'm keeping in mind for next time. Wish I'd thought of it before now.

Then there's Hopes bikes, Cassandra and Jasper... I'm such an airhead sometimes. These and others are all clearly worthy of consideration.

I must not have, glad to hear I'm not alone! :)

Regarding ladies' bikes, I'm with you Gordon. A separate "girls' category" sends the message that women can't compete with men as bike builders, which is ridiculous.
