Since there were some concerns with the lack of nominations and class of bikes chosen for the nominations, I figured a poll for y'all to decide the style/size of the bike for March was in order.  Personally, I thought Kit did very well.

In this poll, each will be allowed to make three choices.  Why? It might spice it up a bit and create a bit more participation.  Since it is spread out into many categories, there may not be enough bikes for nominations.  Tiz why one of them is for the top two categories.  So, if the "Top Two Categories" selection wins, we will make it the top two selected categories for the nomination poll.

Notice the new option "Ladies Only".

If there is a class I missed, let me know so I can add it.  If we need to tweak the specifications for a particular nomination type (i.e. Purist, cafe-ish), let's do that.

I will let this run 10 days.  Then we will nominate for 10 days.  Then we will vote for the remainder of the month.

I'm a little confused;
A full race street legal? isn't that a contradiction.
If this is SOHC4 how does single/twin come into it.

I can alter the Full Race (street legal) if you wish, got an idea for naming it?  The idea was if it is used to race, built out, maybe a full fairing but has a license plate, headlight, tail light and turn signals as well as incorporate any size.  Some people drag race these bikes as well and drive them to and from the track.  This may fall into the area of tweaking out the specifications for a particular category like the purist and cafe-ish.

There are many members here that have twins and singles.  Some of us may be die-hard SOHC4'ers but many members here also have other bikes as well,  I did not want to leave anything/anyone out.

I personally thought that would be fun option and bring out more of the lady riders.  It would be kewl to have more of them involved and out in the open.  We have Kit here that is fairly popular and there are some other lady members in the registry.

Kit and other lady members, are you insulted with this option?  It can be removed.

I'm just a guy but while I can imagine this category taken as condescending I do think some acknowledgment is a good thing. It's not like a 'girls league' in sports where it suggests women aren't equal.

But as I said it's coming from a guys point of view.

I can't speak for others, but 'ladies only' would narrow it down to... (someone did the math)  69:1  as in there are 69 guys (and multiple bikes per guy, often) to every one woman and her bike(s) on this forum.

Subtract from that how many women are actually regularly active here instead of lurking on and off...

I don't think it'd be a very wide spread, anyway.  I'll let Motobunny and the other ladies speak up, though, too.

Like had been said, this IS the SOHC4, but there ARE
quite a number of folks (myself included  ::) )here with some Twins AND singles and it would be cool to have someway for them (and maybe even ME) to get some recognition. I've had thoughts about this before myself, but never seemed to get around to proposing anything.

Crap, I didn't think about what Bill said on the twins and singles category.  I think I had a hanging chad.  I've been disenfranchised.  I want all three of my votes to go for twins and singles.  Super Hawks are SOHC.  I have 2 of them(4 total cylinders).  Doesn't that make it SOHC/4?  Man; I think I could really get into this whining stuff. ;D

That's going to make things way too complicated.  Keep it open to all sohc4's every month.  Adding more restrictions and an additional voting procedure to each month's BOTM will only reduce the total number of members participating.

I think part of this is in interest of categorizing or matching up nominees.  It may be best to do one thing one month, one thing the next, blah blah, so in March we have all rat choppers and in April we have all stockers, and....
just because while one rat chopper can stand forks and axles over the rest, it might never win against, say, a $4000+ restoration or race project.

Thank you Kit.  You are right.

If y'all really look at it, I have made no restrictions.  It is more open that it has ever been with the addition of a few ideas.  If there are any restrictions, it is not by my choice, it is by the voting members.  There is an "All the above" option.

I just hope y'all have nomination choices ready for the selections that were made in the poll.

I get where you're coming from, but you have to look at it from the perspective of the average sohc4 member.  If a member doesn't know of anyone's bike that fits into the particular category for that month, then obviously they're not going to nominate anyone, and will be much less likely to vote because they don't feel like they were a part of the whole process.

And then there will be the inevitable discussions/arguments that will come up regarding whether a particular bike really is a "bobber" or a "cafe" or a "chopper" and so on and so on.  Who's going to write up the detailed list of what defines all these different categories?

When the bike type has been chosen at the end of the poll and it falls into a debatable category, I will attempt to come up with a basic set of rules for that bike and allow everyone else to make/debate/request a change or addition to what we should be nominating.  That would be the best I can do.

It won't be me making those rules because I do not even know what exactly makes what a certain category.

This is only my third month doing this because Heff vanished.  I have been looking through the older threads for BOTM and trying to go by the rules that were originally created to do it as I can.

I guess you can say, I put it out here for everyone as it is everyones, not just mine.  I just do what I need to do to allow this to keep going and try to make work.

The last two were wide open which led to the last one being one being two totally different classes of bikes and a wide margin of votes. So, this poll was hopefully a solution to resolve that one.  I know I can't fulfill everyones needs and requests but what else am I to do?
