Topic: leaking valve cover

I just felt like sharing this.

Today I took the valve cover off my 1983 Kawsaki GPZ 750 to check the valve clearances. Everything checked out, albeit the clearance on #3 intake is a shy tight. .002 instead of .003. Anywho, get the cover back on, , the coils, the carbs, the filters, the tank and take her for a 12 mile spin on the highway. Everything feels good. Get some gas when I notice A LOT of oil dripping off the front of the engine. So I baby it home and look at it while she's idling. It's pouring oil from the front of the valve cover. Like a waterfall. I hate to think what it looked like while I was cruising at 70. The wind blew the oil all up and around the bottom of my tank and on my coils and sh*t. It'll be a nice mess to deal with tomorrow when I take it apart again. I'm looking forward to it.

So?  Why is it leaking that bad?

broken gasket. I took it apart today and used this great stuff I've had called E600 adhesive. It dries into a semi hard rubber that's solvent and oil resistant. Sealed it up, hasn't leaked at all today. I'm going to run it on the highway tomorrow to test it. In the meantime, I ordered a new gasket because the cover's coming off again soon so I can change a valve shim.
