Now, THis One I'd Like To Know The Details Of.
« on: February 02, 2009, 05:38:18 PM »

Probably too much machine work to accomplish, but I sure would like to know the details of what it took to put the 450DOHC top end on that Super Hawk lower end And how it performed. 8) ;) I mean I've got the basic parts but, not the know how or the expertise to accomplish it. I also saw (somewhere, where someone took the top end of a Suzuki GS400 (also a DOHC) and mounted it on a Super Hawk lower end. I can't find where I saw that though.

It's the bike I was telling you about last week in another thread.
It was built by a mate of mine named Pete Rhodes a few years back.
I'll ask him for details if I see him.
I looked all over the net for that thing last week. ::) ::) ::)

Sorry Sam, I had had a "Senior Moment" and it just slipped away! ::)  Sure would appreciate knowing some more about that one. I mean, it's not like I'd ever be competing against him. ;) I did find a thread over on the 305 forums where a fellow would like to build a 500cc out of one of those engines with the 305 lower and the 450DOHC upper. :o

52 hp @12K... geez!

Billy, the bike in the pic is only a look-a-like and not even a replica.

A real CR77 has a bore and stroke of 60 x 54 giving 305.4cc.
The power was only 47bhp at 12,500rpm.
It also had a six speed gearbox not five and had a dry weight of 345lbs.

Still ain't bad considering my bike is/was rated at 50 and tips in at over 400 lbs.

Thanks for the info sir! Always welcome a skoolin'.

Well, just read email from Ellis Holman and HE is the one who built a CR77 lookalike that used a Suzuki GS400 head and this is the bike. I suppose this is the one that Sam was telling me wasn't a true CR77. Looks pretty decent to me, but, then again, I'm not very up on the details of the race bikes like Sam and some of the others. If I was to EVER have anything that even remotely looked like one of those bikes, it would HAVE to be an attempt at a copy!  ::) ;)

If I remember correctley, Ellis did join the forum a few years back.
I think he has a YB 350 race bike to very early specs, a very nice bike.
His build skills are verry good.

I think you are right Sam, because some time back, I was posting some of the bikes on his website and next thing I knew, YOU were telling me that he was online and I got to have some conversation with him. 8) Very knowledged man and very responsive to emails. I've exchanged a couple with him tonight and one earlier today. Very nice to talk with about the features of one of his bikes and no problem for him to answer questions in very good detail. ;)
Wouldn't surprise me to see him chime in here on this. :)
