Koito H4 headlight upgrade
« on: October 06, 2005, 10:54:42 AM »
Hey All,
I just picked up a Koito  H4 headlight at a salvage yard I thought $25 was a good price. It is day so I can't see the difference. Do I need to adjust this light different from my standard light? It seem's to have some serious cutoff. Almost forces you to use your high beem's when nothing is comeing the other way. I had some Cibie's in an Audi and notice a huge difference. I should notice the same on my bike. I also noticed that the standard watt's are 50/60 and the H4 is 55/65. My charging system is in good working order. I shouln't have anything to worry about. I'm riding to a local club (The Denver Rusted Nut's) gathering tonight so I'll see how it works. We meet every 1st thursdfay of the month at the same location. It is for anything over 20 years old. There are ussually lots of cool bike's and scooters.

Thank's
 Paul

I had a Cibie on the 500 in the avatar (long gone I'm afraid - same as my hair...)

In the late 70's you could buy a "Z" beam or an "H" beam

The "Z" sent a spear of light (on dip) up the kerb, nearly as far as the main beam went
The "H" was more like a car with a horizontal cutoff with a "flip" up the left hand side (we drive on the left here)

After trying both, almost all of us ended up with the "H" as the "Z" was just too dazzling for the poor sods guys coming the other way.

Night and day. Chalk and cheese. Wish I could find one now.

Better was the SEV Marchall it used two seperate bulbs of the H1 spotlight type so if you removed the locating pins from the 100 watt H1 specials and then wired the dip bulb into the mandatory (in UK) front park light on main you had 200 very bright watts. Battery had to be good and still didnt last long but if somebody upset you you could melt their eyeball!!!
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!

Hey Egil, where you been mate?

You can still buy the H4 inserts at most auto parts stores, I've got a couple, but saw some at an auto parts store a couple of weeks ago, when I was buying a "blade" type fuse box for my K1. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You can still buy a new Cibie ...the best H4 with the cat's eye lens, they cost squat and are so much better than the Stanley lamp ;)

"Biffter" what the hell kinda name is that Dave? It sounds like what Australia just did to the World XI cricket team, we "Biffed" em, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Mornin' Terry.

England won bugger-all at rugby after the world cup and will probably do the same with cricket.

You can "biff" us all you like - you know it doesn't matter now...

Dave- what's with the new handle?

So this is a Northern thing then?

Never heard of ciggies called "biffta" - wonder what the root was?

I've answered my own question...

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=biffta

Not so sure about the alternative meaning though.
