Fuel tank restoration? (SA)
« on: February 04, 2009, 11:03:15 PM »
The tank on my CB750K has the usual crap inside that comes with age.  As far as I know, there's no "quick fix" for that kind of thing so I'm keen to get the tank properly restored.  Does anyone know a place in South Australia that does that kind of thing?  I'm going to have new paint done at some time, so it'd make sense to do this first.

I did once find mention of a place in the Barossa somewhere, but I managed to lose that info :(

try and look up a local radiator repair man, they sometimes do tanks, and are usually not unreasonable in price... maybe being in SA you can assist them by supplying a few wines... :)

The latest Classic bike magazine has a advert in it, about that tank liner stuff all the yanks rave on about. Its for tanks that are rusty or have pin holes, this stuff seals the inside of the tank.
It seems to get great reviews from blokes on this site.

Just my opinion - get a quote from the radiator man, then price the POR kit or REDKOTE,

you can awlays do the kit if necessary after the radiator man... your call

just my 2 cents worth--- probably .005 cents now.... :)

Problem with this thou, is you weld up one hole and another one appears next to it.Being a panelbeater/bodymaker by trade i have never had much success with rusted tank. But it depends on how far gone the tank is.

Find yourself an old school mechanic, ask them to silver solder the holes (if you know there are any).
