cb500/4 got too warm?
« on: April 22, 2009, 10:25:10 AM »
Hi guys
Today a got a 60miles trip with my total rebuilt cb500/4 1972(all stock...air box,carb jets,exsaust,etc)
I had 2 hours break in the middle of trip...
Throttle was moving fine before engine start...was moving fine when engine start too and was cold(first 10 minutes)...
But on coming back(i was at 4200rpm and 90 km per hour all the time) i found the throttle too heavy to move..
What could be the problem?
Engine got too hot?should i make this first trips shorter?
Carb thing?should i adjust air screws?
points plate problem????
Please advice

First thing I'd look at are the throttle cables or the carb throttle linkage.  Those are really the only things that could cause a throttle movement problem.  I guess the throttle sleeve on the handlebar could be a cause, but an old, frayed throttle cable is the most likely cause.

Anything attached to the carbs that moves when you twist the throttle control.  If any part of this assembly is corroded or broken it will hinder the movement of the main throttle control.

Take the tank off, twist the throttle open and closed and look closely for anything that looks like it's not right.
