Nono, it went in front of the rear tire, between, but not that close to the carbs. As was pointed out earlier, there would be a heat shedding issue, I thought about this a while back, but the oil getting warm from the engine, then the engine getting warm would warm the oil tank more, causing the oil to get warmer. All of this being so close to the carbs, carb bowls especially, would warm the fuel.
If you look at a stock CB750 there is a plastic fender that keeps the rear tire from slinging mud, dirt and stones at the engine, this is replaced by a slim tank.
