Battery ACID >:(
« on: February 07, 2009, 06:10:18 PM »
In the recent thread about getting chrome on various parts, mention was made of the battery acid getting on a chrome swingarm and ruining it.  I'm having problems with the acid getting on a painted swingarm and screwing up the paint, for the third time, I'm getting tired of this.
Has anyone tried to capture the acid with a small plastic container of some sort?  Would you think that any baking soda in the container would work or be a bad idea?  Maybe stuffing the container with some polyester stuffing like they use in pillows to keep the acid "absorbed" until it can be cleaned out?
I would like to get the swingarm chromed, but not until I can take care of this problem.

BTW, the battery isn't getting overcharged and cooked, it's just a few drops of acid that p1$$ me off.

The battery overflow tube should exit below the swing arm and any fluid overflow should therefor be vented without harm.

I'm assuming it's coming from the overflow? Why don't you have a tube that's long enough or am I missing something?

Well, I thought the tube WAS long enough, I guess not, but still, I'd like to catch the stuff before it gets on anything else.
Thanks for the catch tube link, I'll look into it.

Another option, A sealed battery. Or an agm battery. Once this one wears out.
