nope, looks too crude.

You guys really got it in for someone that actually uses their bike while having little to spend on it..

dont ever travel through a 3rd world country and look at the vehicles, you wont enjoy it...

I wouldn't ride that death trap that's for sure.

If you are so poor that you cannot afford to buy real saddle bags or do any REAL repairs to the thing, you probably should put your money into something else like paying the damn bills. I would be forgiving to some one in a third world country who doesn't have a lot of transportation options, but notice the very new car behind the pile of crud bike....

Who says it's any more of a death trap than anyone else's bike on this forum?  There are some who would consider any bike born before the year 2000 to be a "death trap", let alone one born 40 years ago.  The bike looks like it has good tires and a decent frame...  Apart from the forks having some kind of issues (may just be leaky gaskets), I wouldn't have a problem riding it.

It's odd that you note the new car behind the "pile of crud" right after you say that if someone can't put "real" accessories or repairs they should put their money into paying bills.  This leads me to believe the owner HAS money to pay bills, and therefore WANTS his bike to look the way it does.  Given that, what exactly is a "real" accessory?  Some chromed knickknack purchased from some status quo motorcycle superstore, or something created at home with materials and tools at hand??  And what exactly would be a "real" repair?  One that looks good, or one that works?

Anyone can go online and spend $$$ for parts.  I have a lot more respect for someone who has the skills to make these things on their own.

What exactly makes it a death-trap? So long as that hard tail was done well, looks like it has newer tires, beyond that all it needs is to run well and have good brakes!

And those saddle bags DO look functional and that's the important thing. Lots of very VERY expensive saddle boxes are basically bigger aluminum ammo boxes with a lock. So I don't see the problem there either.

Yeah, so we are all turning into a bunch of red greens? Slopping a roll of duct tape on your bike is not a repair dude....

Don't get too philosophical with this whole things, it's a good bike, was obviously treated like crap, the fourm i found the picture from was evening using it as a referance point for what a bike should not look like.

Yeah I am a snob, you got me pegged. Damn. Sorry man.

Right on Fuzzy, there's a young guy with a dream, who had the courage to create a unit suited to his purpose without fearing the spewing of the staus quo, who spent within his means, and then did the Tour.  My admiration is complete. A perfect illustration of 'you are not your bike'.

I don't see what the problem is with doing things the correct way versus hacking things together. I will admit I didn't know the story behind the bike. My bad. I didn't find the picture on the forum Shenan did. I admit it's a rad story, but the bike is still abused and looks like crap, it is also very obviously in the states... so why not fix it up, the right way? Oh before anyone starts in with more philosophy with "Who's to say what the right way is?!"... you know exactly what I mean. I'm all about McGuyver style fixes, but I would not keep them in place either.

While I don't disagree with you....

I have seen a lot of crappy welds hold up better than anything I could do to break em. Weird parts make an extremely unique bike. Look at Billy Lane, somewhere there's a picture of an older HD that he fixed just enough to get and keep on the road. Bike looks like it was made to kill people. 10 to 1 says it will ride longer than anything you or I could build on the cheap.

In the end it's all about placement and skill. Half the crap on TV isn't ever ridden off camera. The bikes are either way too expensive, or too hard to operate with a certain degree of comfort for the rider.

While I personally wouldn't ride it daily.... I wear a suit to work so..... I would beat the crap out of it on the weekends. Why?

Maybe he just got tired of paying theft insurance, and had a few stolen..

I think the thing that pisses of riders most about bikes like that is they usually get ridden more than some of the "better" ones...

if i had the chance to travel europe on a bike i don't think i would mind what it looked like. i would want a good exhaust on it though (better than the exhaust here) and good carbs. i would also wash it at least once a week. a vehicle is like your teeth, they serve you best when you keep them clean.
