CB750 K4 Side Covers - How to Keep Them on the Bike?
« on: February 07, 2009, 02:15:38 PM »
Guys, it's happened twice now - I'm running up through the gears and at around 100 - the left side cover pops out of the the bottom grommet and taps my leg (jeans and boots). I quickly reached down and pushed it back on, but had I been weariong my riding suit like normal, I would not have felt it. Is there a way to keep these in place without altering the outside appearance?

I'm running K&N filters so the airflow is getting under them. I need to find a solution!

Thanks,
Gordon

drill small holes in the mounting pegs, close enough to the end that you'll be able to pop a couple "hairpins" into the holes. i got mine from a hobby shop  that sells r/c car stuff. theyre nice and thin and light  but they'll still keep the cover on.

Have you tried brand new frame grommets?

Worked wonders for my 550s.

I just replaced mine with new one's....  You wouldn't believe how soft they are compaired to the old dried up one's.  There expensive, but worth it.  8)

The fine pins will work but sometimes hard to remove........I put a dab of liquid electrical tape on the tabs.  Has worked for years and is easy to replace from time to time.  If your local hardware store does not have it....go to a marine supply.....lots of it is used for boats and aircraft......even comes in colors

Thanks guys. I will have to try the pins. These are new grommets of course. None of the rubber was re-used, well I did re-use the drive cussions in the rear wheel. It could be that silicone grease I put on them when installed.

"at around 100"...where you ridin' the Audobon?   ;D   I also think the new rubbers will solve your problem.  With the cost of those things you may want to consider the pins too.

100? , no not the autobon - just love hitting that 10,500 limiter and making the shift simutaneously when the Dyna kicks off the spark. A hundred comes at you quick when running through the gears. It's not something I do often - just when I'm wanting to hear the Kerker sing a little tune through the 1.5" baffle.

The rubbers are new and it's still lifting up on the left side. I'll have to go with pins.

Thanks,
Gordon
