Oil under tappet covers
« on: February 13, 2009, 04:07:19 PM »
How much oil should i be able to see under the tappet cover? #1 has a pretty good amount on each side. Is this because it's on the kickstand and not draining down? I'm trying to figure out where all the black sludge is coming from in the exhaust.

there should be lots of oil everywhere under the tappets.  Next time you run her, put her on center stand so that you can prove to yourself that both sides get lots of oil.

Sludge in the exhaust, eh?  Do you get smoke at startup?  Smoke when running?  Have you run a compression test lately?  How many miles and how hard has she been ridden?  Are you changing oil frequently?
Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.
