Greetings from the Champlain Valley
« on: February 09, 2009, 03:43:32 PM »
Greetings!

I was forwarded a link to this site from a member of the UTMC board, and I have found it very informative. I have a '78 K8 in need of an overhaul. My primary focus with bikes is regional salvage and the occasional fix-n-flip. This K8 is ugly but complete enough that I figured I'd take a whack at getting it back in running shape. I am mostly into 70's Japanese dirtbikes, and my current on-road bike is a rat XJ750.

After the carbs are cleaned up, I'll need to figure out a new front brake setup. The swinging caliper and master cylinder on this bike are toast, so I am in search of a modern caliper to slot in on the fork and I have a NOS unused Yamaha superbike master cylinder I will be mounting up top.

Looking forward to entering sponge mode and learning all I can about "refreshment" of these bikes as I go about working on the K8. My end desire is a simple refresh with some nods to modern bikes like aftermarket turn signals, progressive shocks, and a better front brake setup.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

greetings.  I know a guy here in indy who might have that swinging caliper bracket and such. Phone number is 7653498327, his name is Bud.  Give him a call, if he doesn't have it currently, he probably knows who will.
