Thanks. She's kinda ratty. I wish I had a lot of money sittin' around to throw into pipes/muffler that wasn't rusted up. Black pipes would be nice. I like the yellow and black scheme. I can't decide if I should pay the $$$ for a paint job. I have a buddy that will do the tank, side panels and tail for $200. I've seen his work and it's awesome. he's a perfectionist.

I'm no CB knowledge master, but I don't think they did. By the time they started equipping those on bikes they had moved to the disk brake. '77 was the year they started putting them on the F's (F2). I would like to know more on this subject, like what other models and years they used these mags.

i have a set that have a single disc front and a single rear. i dont want to convert my k4 to disc in the rear hence the desire for the drum.

Congrats on the new camera!  Take as many pics as you can store, especially if you're disassembling anything!  document everything with photos, you won't regret it down the line.

Those type of wheels are referred to as 'Comstars' and a search will get you lots of results.  Check ebay for them too, you can find out some other bikes they appeared on that way too.  http://www.servicehonda.com/test/index.htm  has lots of part numbers and diagrams, in their parts system.  You can cross reference different bikes and find the parts you need. 

Watch out for rim widths, as wheels from smaller bikes may be too narrow to fit the correct width tires for your bike.
a 'tire fitment chart' from one of the tire manufacturers will give you an idea what other bikes were fitted with the same width tires, and you can go from there.

yeah, the '79 650 had the reverse stamped comstar, it's 17" and has a drum brake.
The '80-'82 had a mix of combos. (I have a spare 17" rear if interested)
I have a '80 set that are spoked, rear is 17" with a drum.
The '81 & '82 rims I have seen are comstars with a drum, but they are 16" rears.


Not sure if the DOHC 650 had a drum brake.

Yep my 82 sohc has drums on the rear.

  Yellow is rather fetching on a CB  I thought about changing the color, but yellow seems more of a less-likely-to-get-run- over color than the flat black I was thinking about.

Thanks My friends seem to hold the same opinion as well and flat black bikes seems to have been run into the ground at this point, but I just like flat black on anything unless it's food. (sorry to anyone with a flat black bike no offense intended). I'm one of those wierdos that where a lot of black.

   How much of the history of the bike do you know? The tank and other body parts could have been swapped out for '76 parts at some time. Look on the underside of the tank, side covers and tail cowl. The original colors might show there as over spray. If you don't see any red or black on the undersides then the parts have either been swapped out or very thoroughly painted. The trim strips along the bottom of the seat would have a matching yellow tape if all was original. The tape looks to be black or maybe the Antares Red...it's hard to tell from the pic. Your seat has been recovered and the side covers have no badges, so there have been some changes made to the body parts. '77F's were either Black or Candy Antares Red from the factory as were the '78's.

There have been 2 owners and the PO new of no paint changes and when asked stated it was the original color per the guy he got it from. I told him I didn't care one way or the other so HE had no reason to BS me. Not to say that the PPO didn't BS him, but the PO really didn't seem to care about original paint. The side panels were yellow plastic, I just got the black ones because the old ones were brittle and cracked. (I posted about the excellent quality recently). The tail is yellow because I took it off when I recovered the seat myself, which may have been reupholstered before because I saw no sign of the belt that goes across it. What trim strips are you talking about and where are they? Are you saying that the chrome that trims the seat to the tail should be yellow in the center as opposed to black? I saw no tape along the bottom of the seat which could be related to possible reupholstering previously. I would like to know if this is the original color just for giggles even though it's staying yellow. I can take pics of diff. parts if it helps identification. Are a lot of parts swappable on the '76 and '77? What I have been able to find points to no besides mechanical parts. Thanks for the input.

   So the truth comes out. The 75/76F tanks had what I consider to be a nicer decal than the 77/78's. It's a double pinstripe around the tank profile. I like it so much more than the detail on my 78 that at some point I want to paint my body parts(not what some of you are thinking)...tank, side covers and cowl...the orange color from the earlier F series...not sure which year right now...and use the corresponding decals.

Those pinstripes do look really nice. It's more subtle than the 77/78 decal, but really adds character. I wish those decal kits weren't over $100.
