78 750F Red Colors
« on: February 10, 2009, 06:58:53 AM »
I've searched for nearly an hour and can't find the topic which outlined the Duplicolor paint color which is the closest to Candy Presto Red. Anybody have it saved?

Edit: I do have Terry's post about his F2 Rattle can paint job bookmarked but he states the supplier for his material is out of business, even if they were still available, they are down under and it would be far too costly to ship to the US.

Any suppliers of rattle can candy reds in the US that anyone has had success with? I do have spray equipment in my shop but would like to minimize cost.

I'm not sure about any "duplicolor" paint codes for these bikes. If there is a paint code that you can use, it is most likely done by an individual who has found a process by which to "mimic" the original Honda paint. Honda did have paint codes but they only mean something to Honda as they don't relate to any paint manufacturers color charts.

You can get a basic idea of how Honda used base coat and paint to achieve the candy color for your bike by finding your bike on this chart:

I thought it was a Duplicolor match but it may have been something else. Anybody paint a 750 F Candy Red and get it to match closely? I'm not asking for Concourse type match, just similar. Most Candy Reds are too pink for my liking.

you are never going to get "pearl" out of a spray bomb. Metallic or mica should not be a problem. If you can go to your local paint jobber and ask for them to mix you a custom spray bomb you can choose your color. This should cost around $20 a can but then you are not limited to the in stock colors. While you are in there ask if they know a painter that could do a quick cheep re-paint.

I rebuilt an F2 last year.  I went to a classic paint supplier near me (in Oz) and gave them the honda paint code.  Eventually they got back to me and they called the colour Candy Presto Red and it was nearly a spot on match.  I've got the paint code at I'll try and find it.

The conversion $ rate at the moment works in favour to you guys in the US.

Candy Wineberry Red. Off the shelf colour apparently, here in NZ.
I've had a number of compliments on how nice a colour it is... the pics really don't do it justice.

Thanks!  ;D It's looking a bit better than that now that I've managed to get the period correct indicators and sidecover emblems... unfortunately no pics as yet...

The paint shop had it listed as Honda HON/357 - Candy Spectra Red Effect.  This might be what their company calls it.  The lady was on the phone to someone over seas about it.  Hope this helps.
