What's the deal with the petcock filter screens
« on: February 21, 2009, 02:09:11 PM »
In the process of taking the petcock off my 76F in order to clean the tank the filter came out in pieces, the screen in shreds.  From what is left it seems like it is pretty flimsy in the first place.  Should this be considered a routine replacement item and maybe I should order two?  I am new to Honda's so at times I am not sure what to expect.  On my XS650 the filters are quite substantial and after 29 years look as solid as they were in 79.

yeah, you can get em on ebay cheapo-cheap.

Those aren't for the '76F.  I too am in need of one, and they look like a molded screen in a tubular shape and fastened to the petcock in a very fragile way.  Mine broke off inside the tank...still looking for a proper replacement

I have the older flat style wich when I 1st got the bike was in pieces. I removed it and WAS using inline filters. Unfortunately I had a constant problem with the left two carbs running dry. I think it was due to the line routing wich was necessitated by the external fliters. Last winter I broke down and shelled out the $$$ to servicehonda for a new petcock (old one was dribbly as well) and re-routed the fuel lines proper. Havent had any issues so far...I guess Honda did their homework.
