Need some quick help on a couple things...
« on: February 10, 2009, 06:00:35 PM »
hey guys, I have a couple questions that i need help with.... My comp crashed and i lost all of my reference pictures.

1. where does this washer go???  does it go where i have it in the picture?

2. how do you hook up the coil wires? there are the 2 black and white wires and then a yellow and blue wire that has to get hooked up to the coils. just not sure which screws that the black wires hook up to and which screws the blue and yellow hook up to.

3. the bike came with Dyna-s ignition. the dyna has a white and a black with coming off of it i believe and is supposed to get hooked up to a blue and yellow wire i believe. which one goes to which?

4. where does this black and brown wire go? there is no female connector to plug into does it go into the solid black double connector? I know that its a wire that runs up to the kill switch. The wiring schematic in my clymer doesnt seem to have any reference to a black and brown wire?

Im sure im forgetting something. but i think thats all for right now. I appreciate it in advance guys.

Q2..Coil that fires #1and4 cyl. gets one of the black/whites and blue... Coil 2and3 gets other black/white and the yellow..... on coil terminals does not matter which way round just needs to be combination as above.
Q3...dont know, sorry.
Q4. If from kill switch, goes to either plain black or black with white tracer....try each way, if
wrong you will have no power at coils ( test for 12v at black/white coil terms. ).
Hope this helps you.

that should help fairly well. I figured out the Dyna ignition wires.

as far as that washer goes, im not sure if you mean it goes on the on the outide as in "the heavy toothed side?" or the "fine toothed side"?

also, the starter is not working. if i bypass the solenoid it still wont bump. i can hear a "swirling" sound coming from what seems to be the solenoid when i jump it across the posts. but the starter doesnt actually do anything. it was working fine when before i took it out.

Double-check the obvious !!, is the battery charged all the way?. turn-on the headlight, should be bright white without dimming after a few seconds if battery is good. If you 'jump' the + terminals on the solenoid (the big copper pair ) then voltage is direct to the starter..no-go ?...starter may be jammed against its gear.

the battery is in good charge. the headlight does not have power. the rear of the harness has power thoug. there is power at the solenoid terminals and the starter gear that touches the crank starting gear is not in it. so the actual gear on the starter is free. I have checked a majority of the obvious. but i still dont know. I have to hook up the coil wires today but i dont see why the healight should not light up. My oil light is lit up.
