« on: July 22, 2007, 03:07:04 PM »
I bought a 79 cb650 tank for my 80 was wondering if i put the mounts from my 80 tank that is dented can be switched to the the 79 tank...from what i have gathered so far they are the same petcock. any help with this subject would be awesome.

Have never tried that particulat swap.
The seatpan may have issues.
The '79cb650 tank looks longer to me.

But I am comparing my '79 and '81cb650 tanks, not a '79 and '80.

Can't hurt to try fitting it.
Not too sure how that would visually look(79 tank on '80 frame), but I definately favor the '79's tank shape more so than my '81's.

Even though a 79 tank has the same petcock as 80 the tank wont fit.  It is longer so you would have to modify the rear mount and the seat.  Youd be better off with a 81/82 tank and petcock and reduce the fuel line size.

For everybody asking I have a 79 tank but it needs paint.
