2 CB650 questions...
« on: August 28, 2007, 10:27:25 AM »
1.  Will a tank from an older CB550 fit a 1979 CB650?

2.  Will a seat pan from an older CB550 fit a 1979 CB650?

The problem is that it seems hard to find a used seat and/or tank for a CB650 for sale.  I am considering giving my CB650 an older retro-cafe look, but I don't want to modify my perfect, original tank, side panels and seat.  I'm not going to do it unless I can find used ones for a reasonable price to paint and to reshapr and recover.

Any ideas?

Any pictures of what the underside of a CB550 seat pan looks like?

Thanks for any help.

Well...  I guess based on my last two posts regarding my "new" CB650, and the subsequent lack of response, that there is not a lot of love on this board for the red headed step child of the Honda SOHC family, the CB650.   :'(   Oh well.

I know nothing of your stepchild ;), but I can go take a pic of a 550 seat pan and get some measurements on the mount points if you like.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

OK, overall length is 26", it's 12" wide at the widest, the rubber blocks up front that rest on frame tubes are 6 3/4" on center, the round rubber blocks that rest on flat frame piece are 4 1/2" on center. Here's a pic..

I looked at my seat and pulled some measurements.  If you are measuring at the same places that I am, then it looks like it would work.  Thanks for taking the time.  I will be on the lookout for a 550 seat.

I've got a spare tank that needs some love, free to good home but you gotta pay to have it delivered.
Address is in New Zealand. ;D
See plenty of love for our ginga headed child, 650 owners are very special people. ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
