How do you deal with a**hole bikers/riders
« on: February 14, 2009, 03:39:43 PM »
Hey everyone,

Been awhile since I've checked in, since I started a new job in December and it is winter time. Anyway, some guys at work were talking about riding motorcycles and my ears perked up cuz if it has 2 wheels, it's cool with me, ya know? So it gets around to me, and I tell the group that I used to ride to Denver and back, daily. At first, they were all nodding saying things about how long of a ride it was, and how hardcore I was to make the ride. All that until I told them (proudly) that I rode a 1975 cb750k. That's when all the smart-aleck comments started. I realized that I was in the company of a bunch of V-Twin 8000cc or larger only riders.
Well I was outnumbered, so it was pretty much useless trying to defend my trusty steed. What really bothers me is none of these narrow minded jerks knows the history of the old 750-4. The place we work is a large mechanical maintenance facility, so the only comeback I had that got any of them, was "not only am I a better Motorcycle historian than all of you put together, but I'm also a better Motorcycle mechanic. As a matter of fact, I'm a better Mechanic, period!" That didn't shut them up, but it took the attention of my beloved cb750k5. How do you all deal with these jerks?

You gota ride your own ride. Why care what the others say.

I own a few bikes and ride them all. You can find me on a SL175 or a CB550 or and HD Ultra Classic. Each brings a smile to my face. Dont much care for making other riders happy. I just love to ride.

next time just tell them that when and if they go to purchase a large bike again tell them to check wih you first that you can save them thousands of dollars on their new bike when they ask how just smile and reply that you will have a shirt printed up stating that they have a small penis. and that big bad bike is a coverup to hide their misfortune.

I agree.  Harleys are nice bikes, but there are so many @ssholes who have swallowed the HD marketing campaign so deeply that they are obnoxious to be around.  Sure, everybody has a right to their own opinion, but as you said... they are often ignorant of anything about motorcycles except "if it has the official Harley logo... then it is a motorcycle."  I have had some of these folks crane their neck to see what the heck was this old school thing I was riding...  You can almost read their small minds: "Well I'll be darned, I thought that I was looking at an old motorcycle, but I couldn't find the HD logo on it anywhere.  It can't be no motorcycle... I wonder what the heck it is?  Sounds like a motorcycle... looks like a motorcycle... darndest thing though, logo missing..."

The sad thing is, I never said what Brand the a-hole V-twin riders were riding. You all assumed they were HD riders. You were all correct, by the way. :-\
The sadder thing is, one of the "riders" rides a 1800cc Honda VTX! Dumb bastard doesn't even know the roots of his bike. ??? Oh well, I will not sink to anyone Else's level. I will continue to  ride whatever makes me happy. I will continue to wave to other riders, wether they return the wave or not. I will teach my sons, daughters and grandkids to respect all bikers for the people they are, not the bike they ride.
PEACE, two fingers, my brothers and sisters of the road!

When my dad goes racing if someone puts in an 11 second 1/4 mile he doesnt go and kickem in the balls cos he doesnt like it.
late at night, racing between the lights ;D ;D the only way to settle this ;D

Don't park too close to them HD's eh, you'll get "plastic rash" all over your good old solid steel Honda SOHC 4.
Don't they realise that half the bits inside an HD are now made in Japan?
Heck in my youth which was kinda 35 years or so ago, the HD boys used to sneak into the Kawasaki dealers when no one was watching to buy Kwaka 900 breaker points to replace the electronic ignition on their HD's cos the limiter restricted their performance so much ha ha ha......... ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Next time you have a chance, single out the "jerks" out of the circle and talk to them one-on-one, and not part of the "pack of wolves" feeding off of each other's comments, but rather may actually start to listen to you, without all the derogatory comments from the others. I see that kind of crap on a daily basis where I work too, and once you get the individual out of the crowd they change.  It's almost like they're not cool unless they can cut someone down in front of their peers.

Point out that at least yours has its roots in motorcycling history as apposed to farm equipment history.

Well said.

My brother is one of the nose in the air Harley riders.  Which is funny because we used to ride with each other all of the time before he got his HD.  But for some reason he's not to be seen with me now on either a Triumph or a Honda.   ::)

I guess I'm lucky ;D  Living in the UK you tend not to encounter too many Hardly riders  ;D

Although an HD dealership has opened up a few miles down the road from us, so that's likely to change I guess :-\

I did call in there not long after it opened, just to check it out.  About 80% of the floor area is given over to selling branded sh!t that has nothing whatever to do with motorbikes

At one point it seemed there were A few of those type of HD owners around here as well. It got to the point that even my roommates were shaking their heads at them. But now i have been in the local dealer a few times looking at different bikes and talking to the service dept about options for building a custom bike. Im also going to be helping my roommate rebuild his dads old 73 Sporty. Some of you remember this bike as the one that caught fire due to an idiot mechanic working on it. Its going to get done right this time...then again i did keep pestering my friend to make sure it was rebuilt right. But anyways i went off topic a bit there. What i found works is as said isolate one of them and talk to them one on one..especially on a day thats really poor weather wise..you tend to wind up earning their respect pretty fast when they realise you are just as devoted to the sport of riding you come out in all reasonable weather conditions.

I don't even have a**hole bikers around here to talk to.
So if I came across some, I would try to find common ground for discussion.
Like maybe SUVs that run up your ass, or something.
Discussion of vintage machines of historical significance
would have to wait for another time and place.

Boobs- avoid them at all costs. The people that know their motorcycles will admire your bike for the piece of art that it is.  ;)

One of my grandmothers favorite sayings:

Don't argue with stupid people, the will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

All bikes are good... each for different things.  I enjoy riding an old HD, but I also enjoy the ease and reliability of my more modern cruiser.  Sportbikes are fun to go out and play!  Folks like that - I just avoid.

So many first time mid-life-crisis-owners - talk the HD crap.

If anyone starts admiring my H100 as art, I shall just politely enquire of them when was the last time they had their eyes checked, if that's OK ;D

I just point out that there are more Japanese parts on an HD than on a Goldwing.  One dude actually sold his after he found that out.  Although, he was a true poser.

Just laugh, nod, and smile. Change the subject to boobs, or sports, something guys know about. Then later after the air has cleared, go to the bathroom and write HD SUCKS on the crapper walls...

okay probably not the last part, but I just nod and smile, it sometimes irritates them more when you don't react.

Go for a long ride like at least 800 in a day or a 1000.

Go to Sturgis.

Then ask them how far they ride in a day, then ask them, if it was on the trailer or in the pickup?

Tell them you rode your bike to Trailer week.. ;D
