Well, I say that's a pretty good comeback right there.

Well what you do is ride up next to one of them. Gun it and when the light changes, leave em in the dust! They might get the jump for a few feet but unless they are modded or have the v-rod, you will beat them. Once you spank them a few times, I doubt they will have much to say.

I just point out that there are more Japanese parts on an HD than on a Goldwing.  One dude actually sold his after he found that out.  Although, he was a true poser.
He was looking fo an excuse to get rid of it without beign looked down upon by the other posers.

I would. AS your average HD has a higher quarter time than the average sohc. Not to mention a higher top speed. Like I said, only bikes to worry about would be a vrod or modded. And if anything, most are even shocked when we can go neck and neck obviously showing our bikes are not junk and their bikes are not that great.

Once you add in the combo of most of these people barely knowing how to use a clutch, its in the bag.

I suppose a xr1200 would win but most of these people usually ride fatboys and such.

but hey, if you want to hide from the harleys, no one is stopping you! Me, I like to wait for them instead.

I want to put up a "no harley" sign at the bottom of the driveway, but the wife says I have to remember many Harley rides actually have $ to spend on old Japanese bikes they're restoring.

Certainly not all. You will find a$$holes on all bikes. I think the hd riders just do the "pack" mentality more.

I remember riding from Indiana (2008 Moto GP) to Birmingham one day and seeing all the trailer queens.  A song formed over the hours to the tune of ABBA "Dancing Queen".  Helps make me smile when I hear some fellows ragging on my bike.

It goes something like this:

See that bike with the frame down low?
Betcha that thing goes really slow.
Tires so wide it can hardly turn.
gas the only thing it will burn
You can't ride
You can't ride
Can' t ride more than five miles
Ooohhhh
See that thing,
lookin' long and mean,
but its a Trailer Queen - OoohOooh.

Friday night on the boulevard
Can't make it crank though you've tried real hard.
Tire so wide it will hardly turn
gas the only thing it will burn.
You can't ride!
You can't ride!
Can' t ride more than five miles
Ooohhhh
See that thing,
it looks long and mean,
but its just a Trailer Queen.
OoohOoooh.

Yeah, see that thing,
it looks long and mean,
but its just a Trailer Queen.   ;D

U-haul has me blacklisted because of a dispute over 2 gallons of gas.

I now have a nice pickup truck and a matching 8 x 10 enclosed trailer.

Hey everyone,

Been awhile since I've checked in, since I started a new job in December and it is winter time. Anyway, some guys at work were talking about riding motorcycles and my ears perked up cuz if it has 2 wheels, it's cool with me, ya know? So it gets around to me, and I tell the group that I used to ride to Denver and back, daily. At first, they were all nodding saying things about how long of a ride it was, and how hardcore I was to make the ride. All that until I told them (proudly) that I rode a 1975 cb750k. That's when all the smart-aleck comments started. I realized that I was in the company of a bunch of V-Twin 8000cc or larger only riders.
Well I was outnumbered, so it was pretty much useless trying to defend my trusty steed. What really bothers me is none of these narrow minded jerks knows the history of the old 750-4. The place we work is a large mechanical maintenance facility, so the only comeback I had that got any of them, was "not only am I a better Motorcycle historian than all of you put together, but I'm also a better Motorcycle mechanic. As a matter of fact, I'm a better Mechanic, period!" That didn't shut them up, but it took the attention of my beloved cb750k5. How do you all deal with these jerks?

This I want to see, lol
You have my attention there, lol
You never said how old they were, prolly youngin's
IT"S PAID FOR! And you have some wallet left.
I don't have a motorcycle, sold it ('85 Yamaha Venture Royale).  Haven't had a CB750 for over 40 years.

I know a guy who got all worked up because the electric start on his HD quit. I told him to figure it out an fix it or just kick start it. Turns out he had never kick started the thing. what? why?

My father in law has an Ultra Classic, great guy but the bike-i don't know- it's like riding on a tour bus. the thing doesn't even seem to have pegs. it's more like floor boards. and the dealership owns the only wrench that has ever touched it. hell you can barely find the engine even if you wanted to wrench on it. can't see past all that chromed out plastic.

anyhow-
i don't know about you guys but if there isn't something to fix or adjust at least weekly then what is the point. i even enjoy listening to the engine when i ride for odd things that i have to figure out.

and who doesn't enjoy the &#%@! outta kick starting their bike. it's like getting down and dirty with your woman.
come on

people don't like jap cars and they don't like jap bikes who knows why
honda bikes are bullet proof and their cars are just too reliable

It is kind of funny in the fact that most all of us actually experienced our first ride was on a Jap bike. I grew up with jap bikes. They were reasonably priced, easy to work on, fast, and were bullet proof, dependable. Turn the key, kick and go. What more can you ask for?
In my thirtys I purchased my first HD and developed the attitude of the Harley is the best bike on the road.So I thought. But after many days in the shop getting it fixed for this or that I sold it. Then a year later, I missed Having a bike around so I got in contact with a good friend that worked on Triumphs. I looked a few that he had for sale, listened to them run and liked what I saw. And no one in my town or surrounding towns had one. So I built my first Triumph chopper from scratch. I love that bike to death.Back in the day (40's-50's)Triumphs were the bike to have. Everyone had one, They were the fastest bikes around.
Then in the Late 60's and earley 70's The CB750 appeared on the seen. This bike was the bike to have. Fast, dependable, and priced right. Again what could you ask for? This bike pretty much knocked out any compatition from Harley, Triumph, Bsa, and any other motorcycle manufacturer. So, your bike is a classic, Don't take any crap from any harley wannabees. Your bike has the history behind it. You know which bike is better. What has the Harley ever won as in performace?  At least you jap bike is 100% jap
You can't say that about the american made Harley, can you!  But you still pay the American price, don't you----------Approx 18,000 grand for a bike. Who's the dumb ass????

I don't care what a man or woman rides. But first and foremost the rider must not endanger other road users.

Now, where I live there's a large HD following. And from the behaviour they exhibit on the road, I tell you, I just can't respect them.

Because of:

1. Overtaking on blind corners
2. Not keeping to their own side of the road
3. Herd behaviour
4. bunched up on each others tails in a road tunnel.
5. Overtaking on double yellow lines, in a road tunnel.
6. Forcing me to alter my line to accommodate their bad line, just bullying me off to the side.

And from personal experience they know nothing about biking heritage. I took a pretty nice Kawasaki Z1 903cc on a friends run last week and out of 120 riders only two made any comment about the bike. Not that I care, I didn't buy it for them but it was a real eye opener I can tell you.

There's also some of them on our local bike forum. A thread was going about overtaking and it went like this. When in a group ride you must follow your "wingman". He will be following/leading someone else and if the wingman starts to overtake you must go with him etc etc I just couldn't believe it. The moment I hand my life over to someone else's judgement is the day I sell my bikes and take up knitting.

Well said.

My uncle was a biker. His first bike was from his uncle. It was an HD. He's been riding them ever since. He got a Yamaha at one point, still has it, but he prefers his HD. He's not some HD @$$ though. When I got my Honda, other than my dad, he was the most excited to see it.

Not all HD riders are knuckle heads. Just keep that in mind you guys. I totally agree that a lot of them are yuppies that can afford big toys and have never ridden a motorcycle before the age of fourty, but with that said, keep in mind, one's actions does not speak for the majority.

I was at a pig roast (no pun intended) and was on an BMW R1200S, that I had borrowed from the shop. Being that the crowd was mostly old germans, they loved the beemer....then there was the guy that said

"It ain't a Harley, it ain't worth lookin' at."

My immediate response was:
"Well, maybe if I had a row to hoe, or some stumps to pull out, I'd look at a Harley, but I like my motorbikes to go, stop and turn." Rendered the guy speechless.

I like all motorcycles...especially old ones...just not all the people on 'em.
"It's an old motorcycle, the wind is supposed to blow your head around, it's supposed to leak oil, the brakes should suck, and every now and then, it should scare you so bad you piss your pants."

Haven't lost to a one yet but does it really matter? I am sure that if someone else said what I said, you would not have said anything. Seems you are the only one to question me, why is that?

have you checked out the times and top speeds of the average hd? Not exactly fast.

Well you can keep hiding from the harleys, thats fine with me, I will hold my head up around ANY hd. I guess I am not ashamed of my bike.
