Anyone who says they haven't lost a race has never really raced...

Just let it go you two... :)

I never said that I havent lost, I just have not lost to an hd yet. I lose to most crotch rockets though but then that is generally to be expected! I still try just cause I can though.

Difference is that most rocketeers end up respecting the cb while most hd riders will still sneer even after being beat, or they disappear on the next street. ;)

Actually I have been saying the same to anyone bringing up the subject.

I have a buddy that I sold a sohc 750 that raced it , and later a Sportster. I do work for a wide variety of bikes and spent quite a bit of time at the drags, although not recently.

Curious thing about racing folks on the street, ya never know what they really got, and if you ask, they may not really tell you.

But keep this in mind, we are running 70,s bikes, and newer bikes are not the same as they were back then..

I usually dont  have  too much  grief from riders of other makes, but I think that has more to do with the way you act and speak, than what you ride. You dont have to spend much time with any brand of riders to see a few people with distorted attitudes..

Well there are distorted attitudes everywhere. When i race people though, it is either A: for fun and both know it or B: the other rider is being a cock. I have yet to ride up by an hd and tell him his bike sucks and demand a race to prove it. I am not about that.

I personally IGNORE IGNORANCE. When I go on truns I know the rules. When we assemble the HDs park over there and the "Metric" bikes park over here. When we stop, it is the same drill. When we eat, there is some mingling. I admire the fact the HD guys realize they should not park with their betters. ;D

So what is HD's history with farm equipment? i never knew. Ya know, it is awesome that Honda is so well rooted in motorcycle history and innovative in so many aspects of the auto industry and other non automotive engines for that matter. also all of the up and coming alternatives to the gasoguzzling engines.

but, history in farming is not really anything to scoff at. farming is one huge part of this countries(USA) history.

but then again time moves on and so should we ... I think that might be lyrics from a song :-\

None actually. It comes from the description of the HD engine being like a Tractor motor. It starts down at low RPMs and stays constant to a fairly low RPM like 4500. A Honda 4 starts gaining torque at about 4000 or so and keeps developing torque up to whatever. That is why a HD would take us off the line for the first 40 ft and then we take over. When he has to shift, we are still going.

Bobby I dont know how you race but I am never as low as 4K rpm..
I come off around 4K, but an HD will beat you off the line. The trick is to roll it on and not let go between gears. Once I wind up I will usually pass him.

I come out around 7 or 8K and clutch never gets all the way out for at least 40 feet.

I will never wheely, but the odd time it will lift a hair if there is a slight rise..

You will never get even in the neighborhood of a magazine test time if  you are leaving at low RPM.

just  what I have found works for me..

Kawi makes Trains, tunnel boring rigs, airplanes, ships, robotics, heavy equipment. Most Japanese companies make a lot of different stuff.  They build the NY City Subways partly in NY and Nebraska.

Just to throw my $0.02 in here.

When I run into the "If it ain't Harley it ain't a bike" types, or just other pricks who don't like my bike, my usual response is "If you don't like my ride, feel free and buy me something you do like!", which will usually shuts them up very quickly.  Harley's are nice bikes but just way too over priced for my tastes, however if someone were to offer to buy me one.....well I don't think I could say no to any free bike, regardless of who made it :D

Oh, and if you ever want to really stir things up with the Harley fan boys, try rolling up on a Buell Blast :D  It may not be the most powerful bike on the road, and it won't win any races, but holy $@#% can it carve a corner :D

I own two 1978 SR500's (500cc Yammy singles).  1/2 a harley.  I've pulled into a few places on one to get a sneer and the typical Jap effect from a few "harley" riders - only to have burley old biker dudes come running out to the distinctive thumper sound.  They were having a field day riding it (probably because they knew how to start it), and endearingly remember those older times.

Nothing is better worse than or the same as anything else.  I'd love to have a HD sportster (I think they have some of the best lines on a MC out there), but also would like something that I can carve and play with.  The HD will never be that.

I'd love to get my hands on one of these:

But if you ask some HD purists evo and Twin cams are "real" harleys either.

I've never understood looking down on someones bike.............
