What to do with these forks?
« on: February 16, 2009, 10:41:39 AM »
Hi there I have these forks off of my project bike. The crome around the area that the legs slide up is in good condition, but from just under where the trees clap they are rusted and have some black paint on to hide the corosion.

They look crap so I am wondering what would be the best thing to do with them.

Can I get them rechromed? Or would it be best to look out for some stanchions from a breakers or ebay?

Thanks in advance.

As long as the entire section that comes into contact with the fork seals is in good shape, and the rust on the upper part is only superficial, you don't really have to do anything to them.  You can clean/polish the upper section to get rid of the current corrosion, but since that part of the forks is hidden under the headlight ears and triple tree, it's more of a peace of mind/preventative issue than anything else.
