Rear axle stuck....
« on: February 10, 2009, 11:30:23 PM »
Never mind about the enclosed chain guard. I need to know why my rear axle will only come out about two inches and then stop. It's a solid stop, won't drive out! What am I doing wrong?

Katmol, where on God's green earth did you find this frankenbike?
My favorite method to remove stuck axles is a piece of hard wood and a decent hammer, no matter how much you belt the wood it should take all the damage and leave your axle intact.
You could also drift the axle back to its' original position then spray copious amounts of CRC or whatever you have in the USA as a spray on lube, the try belting it out again.
Man I wish I was there to give you a hand, I just love a challenge. ;D
I'd say your rear wheel bearing is rusted solid and coming out with the axle.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

pressing may apply more force smoothly.  Finding a press large enough may be an issue.  Try local colleges ot trade schools.  There is no physical retention of the axle except the big nut.  No circlips, pins, or threading.  It may be bent.

Return the axle to the beginning position and spray with white lithium grease spray.  Then try turning it with your hand (gloves help) and spray again.  Then try removing it.  Repeat as necessary.

That worked for me when we changed the rear tire on my 1982 CB650SC back in September.

My Nighthawk is put together with wire and zip ties, burns oil, and handles like a pig.  I love it!

Not yet. Haven't had a chance to work on it for a while. I'll get it back on it Tuesday and let you  know how it goes.
