630 to 530 conversion

Hey guys,

so I just ordered the 530 conversion sprockets from Partsnmore, 15 tooth cf sprocket and 41 tooth rear. My question is: How many links to I need for my 530 chain? My feeling is 106. Am I warm?

If it's for a 78K (I'm assuming from your sig at the bottom that it is) then read the last post in the following thread (posted in the FAQ). It's what I referred to when changing out to 530 on my Ocho.

Isn't the 15 /41 combo specified for a 630 chain or a chain with a 3/4 inch pitch?

A 530 is a 5/8 pitch chain.  So, the combo should be more like 18/48 or 17/48 sprockets, depending if you are going for acceleration, or lower cruise Revs.
 A 15 T 530 sprocket is going to be very small and make the chain bend a lot, thus wearing it out faster.  This is the kind of thing that makes holes in engine cases.

I changed to 18/48 per the thread I referenced. Looks like OP needs a couple new sprockets.

According to the model guide, 15/41 for ratio of 2.733 was stock set-up for K8.

I think the diameter of the sprocket remains the same, but the teeth are cut for a 530 pitch chain. Hopefully. Anyone here use the Partsnmore 630 to 530 sprocket conversion for their k7 or k8?

I see what you mean on the partsnmore website listing those sprocket sizes as "530 conversion" but I couldn't find any hits on the search (for this site) to verify if it's accurate, which is kind of surprising. All of the searching I've done point to the 18/48 JT sprocket conversion, but I'm sure somebody that's used the partsnmore stuff will chime in. You could always call partsnmore to verify sprocket sizes and ask about chain size. I bought a 110 link o-ring chain for mine but I can't remember how many links I left off...

That's impossible.  The roller valleys must be on 3/4 centers for a 630 chain and 5/8 centers for a 530 chain.
15 teeth have 15 valleys.  15 x .75 = 11.25 inch circumference.  15 x .625 = 9.375 inch circumference.

The 630 15T sprocket will have a 3.58 inch diameter, and the 530 15T sprocket will have a 2.98 inch diameter around the roller pivot centers.

The tighter you wrap a chain around a shaft, the faster it wears out.

How can a 15 tooth sprocket only have 14 valleys?  Does the valley between the 15th & 1st teeth not count ???

You're right.  I've been cutting wood lately where you make one less cut than the number of pieces you want.
