Braided oil hose cleaning??
« on: February 16, 2009, 02:45:12 PM »
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone attempted to clean those braided oil hoses? I have a set in decent condition, but the braided part is a dirty black color. I have read that they were either black, grey, or white. Don't know if it would be worth the effort of trying to clean them??
Thanks,
Jason

Just so I understand, these are hoses with the metal braid exposed, not covered in a clear/tinted sheath, right?  If it's just oil, I'd say you would be safe to use a mild grease cutter like Simple Green and a soft bristle brush to shine 'em back up.

If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.

The hoses on my K1 are black fabric braid covering the braided metal hose.  A degreaser like simple green and a soft plastic brush works great on those.  An old toothbrush is best because it's small enough to get in the tight places and soft enough not to damage the fabric.

the sheathing on these is fabric
Mine cleaned up really nice with simple green, and the metal ends just needed a bit of scotchbrite/brillo.
I used some spray on fake annodizing spray on the ends as well and they look really good (IMHO) I will try to dig up before and after pix

I cleaned mine with some electronics cleaner and painted with Aluminum colored paint. still a little frayed, but they look much better.  IMHO

The fittings I cleaned with brass brush.
