'75 750F ignition cylinder question
« on: February 17, 2009, 03:07:30 PM »
ok - so i want to clean up the 'dash' and handlebar area on my '75 750F. i want to relocate the ignition key switch somewhere else on the bike. the ignition switch (part #35010-377-007) has a long cylinder and a square plug at the bottom. it seems to me that the square plug style from the K bikes (part #35100-374-007) would be better to relocate, because it has the threaded body and ring to be able to easily attach it to a plate elsewhere on the bike.

my question is this: are they compatible? ie, can i get a K ignition switch, and plug and play with the F switch? if no, are there any options for relocating the F switch that look ok?

I believe the early K switches have a much different connector than your '75 F switch, so not exactly plug and play. I'm sure you could rewire the connections to make it work, and the threaded mount you mention makes it a good choice for relocating the switch.

The '75+ cylinder is mounted to the tree by two bolts. It should not be to difficult to put together a mount for it with items found at a hardware store. It is kinda bulky so I guess the question remains "where to put it?"

I stripped everything off my dash, but left the ignition in place. It doesn't look that bad.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

I di the reverse sucessfully. I used an F ignition switch with the F  triple clamp assembly on a K2.
No real problems apart from finding the plugs to connect from the F switch into the K2 harness
