One other thing, if the spokes on the comstars are steel, why doesn't my magnet work on them? Are they Stainless Steel?

Dave

I think they are galvanized.

well I don't know what it is I am supposed to learn since the article says nothing about whether galvinazation disrupts magnetisim. I imagine with enough coatings of anything, espically other metals, you can disrupt the magneticisim. I can tell you my jeep's floor boards are "galvanized" as stated in the build sheet and there are certain sections that are not magnetic. Maybe it is an alumanized coating or something else.

Either way I have a set of comstars that had the paint/coating stripped off of them and they are rusty. Mind you these are regular comstars we are talking about not reverse comstars which could be aluminum or stainless.

I hate my comstars. I do kind of like the pentagram ones they came out with in 83 though:

Thats not really a comstar...just a cast wheel.

there were other comstar variations however - like the boomerang comstars that came on euro bikes and the cx500 turbo.

The fronts are a direct replacement for any comstar wheel bike, but you have to source the rear from one of the Euro chain bikes (cb900f, cb1100F, vf750 for instance) if you want a match set since the cx500 turbo is a shaft drive bike.

They look like the old dymag or performance machine drag wheels from the 1980s.

There was also a tri-spoke comstar for smaller bikes like the MB-5:

doubt you will see one for anything bigger than 250ccs but still kinda different and neat.

BTW, the cb1100F came with a cast double three spoke rim:

I am not sure about what it takes to adapt these to a SOHC 750 but the 77-78F's share a lot of similar dimensions with the DOHC Fs from 1979-1983 and it would not surprise me if the front was a direct fit. The rear I have heard uses a different axle size but I can't confirm.

I think they are galvanized.

later ones are alloy rim with alloy 'spokes'
As far as I know, all the 'reverse' ones have alloy 'spokes'
The 'stainless' ones are real cheap and go rusty. (same as the brake rotors if they are left sitting in damp conditions)
I remember having a few of the steel/alloy ones  have rivets come loose and being changed under guarantee
