Opinions and comments wanted - new Cycle-X product
« on: February 18, 2009, 07:19:03 AM »
or maybe it's been there a while and I just hadn't noticed, BUT, what do you all this of this?

Cycle X power arc ignitions

I had been planning on going Dyna with my K8 project, but if the price ends up being cheaper...

I was just looking at that the other day. Curious as to how much it will be though??

Sounds $$$. When my Dyna goes, I may look at this one, depends on the $$$

Looks real good on paper.

Magnetic sensors aren't necessarily inherently bad if the execution is good. Adding a 24 or 36 tooth trigger for a magnetic Hall Effect or Variable Reluctance sensor will greatly improve spark accuracy.

Worst part about optical sensors is they don't like dirt or oil! Otherwise they are great.

I'm definitely curious about the cost. If it's even remotely in the ballpark of a Dyna I'd be all over it.

Well they have another ign and it was like $500. I would have to guess this will be the same but who knows. Would be nice if it was cheaper but then if you NEED a system like this, then you got $$$ into the motor already so why not.

It's an adapted HD ignition system called Spyke.

 EDIT:
 Interesting.

http://www.dumbassbiker.com/store/page28.html

Go down 3/4 of the way to the bottom and look for
"AIS Triple-Spark Ignition Kit w/ Coil & Plug Wires, Dual-Fire SPIADAK"

and I quote from the link shown

"Spyke's Acculight Ignition System is a software/hardware based ignition development system which can be used to create custom ignition systems for 1,2,H-D,3,4,6 and 8 cylinder engines. Both 2 and 4 cycle engines are supported."

Interesting..

wow. Looks impressive....
I will agree optical with software control can be more stable over temp extremes, and uneven spacing of the pickups
To what extent... dunno.

I couldn't find the listing of those showing the $$ for it through cycle-X...
Am I missing something?

If anyone gets this PLEASE!!!!!! post something on it.
Looks amazingly adaptable.
I will agree that optics are WAY more sensitive to contamination(dirt, oil, and almost anything else as well)
But if you THOROUGHLY cleaned the cover case(and nearby area) and got a new gasket, it would have a better chance.
rubber gloves for the install to help reduce contamination...
?even clean the tools used? if it's a pricey unit, might be worth the work...

Would like to see before and after dyno runs.
:)
before the swap, and after getting the new ignition system going.

I wonder if one of those pickups could be adapted to a DYNA2000?
Mabey I will have to get a electronics for dummies book......
theirs has too many holes, and needs software to run it, but 2 photo sensors, and a disk with the appropriate hole pattern(s?)...
..... my "things to investigate" project list is immense.... heres one more.

...look at the lower half of the page

sounds interesting.

I emailed asking what the price is for the programmable version. And the PLC cable to program it.

Very interested in this if the computer programmable model is at the $299 price point.

I just got the new Ignition in the mail. It looks very simple to install. The coils seem like they should be able to be placed in the stock location without trouble at all. I will keep the forum updated once I am able to get it installed.

I got the ignition and made up a little mounting plate to put the coils in the stock location. Should be plenty of clearance from the tank. Now I just need a couple of frame clamps and coil wires/caps to pop on.

Ya know I was just thinkin the other day about cutting out a plate to help block the heat off of the engine but still let air flow through for cooling. Let us know the difference in power.

Does the CycleX system have an adjustable rev limiter like the Dyna 2000?
