500 fuel tap help
« on: February 25, 2019, 08:53:36 AM »
Hi all my 550 K1 is a dual fuel hose type and my original tap leaked despite my best efforts to fix it, i got a repo from 4into1.com and that did the same so i have taken my 400 single outlet tap and put it on and split the pipes . it starts and idles but cant test ride as not registered yet , obviously one hose is full & one reserve but this way the fuel will go down both pipes , has anyone else done this and will it work or not .
Thanks in advance ,dave

Dave...... what you’ve done should work. The bike uses surprisingly little fuel, even when running hard. Why did the new tap leak?? Also, FYI, n the dual pipe units, both lines are supply, all the time. The tap posoytion determines where the fuel comes from..... top of the straw is ON and when you switch to RES, it opens a port at the base of the tap.

The dual outlet is just, that dual outlet fed from same source.  The tap itself selects all fuel from bottom/reserve or fuel from the stand pipe.  Either way both lines are fed.

As for leaking, make sure you have all the gaskets and washers shown in the parts diagram, including the stand pipe. filter assy.  It then won't leak unless the cone part is scored.  If it is, it needs replacement.
