hell ya brother..... i bought a 66 a few years back, for 400 bucks complete. than i took the body off and it fell apart! it literally broke in half! so a buddy who has a 63 baja ( w a super diff, polished 1776 w dual 2bbls. etc, and a 71 street beetle) traded some #$%* and he hooked me up with a complete chassis and trans out of a 68. I threw on an adjustable front beam which dropped the front end 4" and found a sweet set of old school 5 spoke wheels in a junkyard for 50 bucks. As of now the completed chassis is sittin in his garage, waiting for me to do something useful with it. Once the bikes done thats my next project. Im tinkin something along these lines...........

That's not very boring.

I collected stamps when I was younger.

That is boring.

I tried knitting once.

That is boring.

Eck.
Let the boring-ness begin, I've just started sewing class this term :(

What is it with that interior smell?
Everytime I see a bug I can still smell the interior.

after owning 50 air cooled vw's over the years my best guess at that smell is,  hot pleather seats, horse hair padding, and the faint smell of the gas tank up front.  if it was a smokers car you have to add the smell of the yellowed out headliner too.  i freakin love that smell!

Lol it's only about the most uncool thing I could do.  ;) I do appreciate the ego boost though.  ;D

Those fireplaces aren't amish. It's a pine plywood box someone threw around an electric heater you can buy at Home Depot for half the price. Piece of #$%* they are. Then they paid a bunch of craftsmen to look like they were making the boxes. Total hoax.

Thing that sold me was the Lifetime Guarantee. I was floored when I returned my chair after a year, I'm hard on them, and they fixed it for free. Then told me if it gets that way again, they'll replace it at no charge.

Right then and there I jokingly asked for a job. Been here ever since.

I was addicted to model trains when I was a kid. My dad let me take over half the basement and my grandpa helped me build the whole set up. He was a rail man for many years.

The Amish thing reminds me of a good story.  Mike Myers did a skit on Saturday Night Live about a Scottish dude who worked in a store called "Everything Scottish", and the catch phrase was "If it's not Scottish, it's CRAP"( with a heavy accent and rolling of the "r" in "crap).  So, my wife and kids used to weekend about an hour and a half away, and we would pass this place called "Everything Amish".  One weekend, obviously after seeing the rerun on Nickelodeon, my son(probably about 10 at the time) spouts off the catch phrase with a perfect roll on the "r", and replacing "Amish" for Scottish.  We laughed for about 30 minutes.

Several families work with "brokers" who put the information on the website for them. And while some communities can have phones in their work spaces, as well as electricity etc, they do not. It's a weird process but it seems to have worked well for them.

Yep.  There is a large Amish/Mennonite enclave about 15 miles south of Iowa City and every fall, you'll see Amish with huge teams pullin flatbeds full of timber (to burn for heat, not to build pole barns.)  I've got a friend whose grandparents "haul Amish."  Which means they drive them into town whenever they need to go to a doctor or get groceries from Aldi's.  The other thing that cracks me up is that there is a sawmilling operation run by the Miller family.  How often do people's last name actually correspond to their jobs anymore?

I had a friend who was out mudding in his truck and got stuck on this old backroad.  Some Amish guy pulls up behind him with a team of 4 huge phucking draught horses hauling lumber.  Since my buddy is stuck in the road, the Amish guy can't get around him, so unhitches his team from the trailer, hitches them up to the truck and with a "haw" these horses hunker down and pull the truck out.  I wonder what that Amish guy was thinking about us and our newfangled technology.
