cb750A rear axle size
« on: February 25, 2009, 10:04:11 AM »
I am going to swap wheels for my Cafe project.I am putting on a sweet set of Cb750 A wheels (spoked, alloy rim)on my 74 750K ,problem is the axle is a smaller diameter, could I just swap bearings on the hub with K bearings?Hub is the same I think.I am NOT going to rebuild the wheels as they are perfect.

According to my parts books, the bearings are the same in the wheel (6304) and also in the sprocket carrier (6305).
Are you sure the axle diameters are different?- as I believe they should both be 20mm

I havent actually measered it yet,but I just took my existing wheel off the K and tried the axle on the A and it wont fit.It goes in about an inch then stops. The hubs are exactly the same, though the bearings do look different.I knew it was too good to be true.I really want to use these wheels.

I am positive the bearings are the same. Check the numbers.
They should be 6304.
Try putting the A axle in the K wheel

check to be sure theres no corrosion on the axle or in the bore of the bearings. that makes it feel like something is the wrong size. dress the axle LIGHTLY with some emery cloth or fine sandpaper

Well,I dont have the axles from the set of A wheels.Tried it again and its definitely a smaller diameter.Makes me wonder. The tire on the 74K is fatter than my 73K and in very good shape,so I was going to swap with the 73.When I do so I will check and see if the two axles are the same, and try the 73 axle on the A hub to see if there is a difference.Makes me curious, could I have a different year rear wheel on my 74,would that be the difference?
