Topic: 750 Oil Pan Gasket Question

One year ago I replaced the oil pan gasket on the KO and used no sealant.  I see the right side is weeping just a bit from the gasket area.  I did tighten the bolts and no change.  Should I buy a whole new gasket and start over? Or do you think I can just carefully remove this 1 year old gasket, clean it off and reseal with Permatex anaerobic sealer on both sides?  The amount it leaks is not even a drip in a month as it sits in the patio.  Maybe you think it is foolish to do anything with it.  That is OK...let me have it for being to fussy.    But I have the time this winter so I was thinking of messing with it.

Hi Johnie, i personally would'nt use any kind of sealant on it,

 i usually make sure both mating surfaces are clean & use a little grease on each surface and then the add the gasket ,

this works for me,  others may contribute with their thoughts and remedies,  cheers Mick.

I agree with Mick, check the surfaces. There is no pressure down there, other than gravity, so it should stay dry without sealant if the surfaces are clean and it's torqued correctly.

Hello Johnnie,

About 3 months ago I replaced the oil pan gasket on my 750 K4.

I used no sealant, as the others say, I just made sure the metal sealing surfaces were shiny clean.  Torque runs from 85 to 95 inch pounds only on some of the longer bolts.  85 inch pounds will actually seal all of them without danger of overtorqeuing.

I have had no problems........... sealant could become a problem this close to the oil pump.

How are the threads and gasket on your drain plug?  And how are the seals on the left side of your engine?  It may not be the pan gasket at all, it could just appear that way because oil collects there.

Good point Alan.  However, I did replace both the side cover gaskets and those are dry.  It is sort of in the area where the oil line attaches just over the right side of the oil pan with those 2 small bolts.  I guess it could be that as well.
