Advanced notice. My CB350F may be up for sale in a few months
« on: February 24, 2009, 03:36:20 AM »
I've been thinking and I have come to the conclusion, sad though it is, that the time is nearly here when I should sell my CB350F.

I just don't have the time, money, experience or skill to fettle her properly.  :'(

I've owned my 1973 CB350F for 10 years and since bringing it up to Hertfordshire in the summer last year I've only ridden twice. I want her to go to someone who has the time to appreciate this great little machine more than I can at the moment. I also don't get as much pleasure from riding her around where I currently live as the traffic is heavy and I'm constantly scared I'll have an accident.

She's in great almost original condition, just needs a little bit of attention to get her up to A1 condition, currently on about 12000 miles. I think the carbs need a clean out and balance, though she was running well the last time I rode her before putting her away for the winter. She also has a Hondaman ignition which helped smooth running. I've also just learned that you can now buy original spec exhausts though they don't come cheap.

She's currently tucked up in a vac-bag with dessicant for the winter.. so she's going nowhere for a while.

So, UK guys, if you're interested watch this space she may become available.

Loony, sounds like she'd be able to sleep a long time in that condition.  In another 10 years you'd regret not being able to unwrap.  Or, wait another 15-20 and your son might get things rolling.  (That happened to me with my '62 CB77 and I'm glad I kept my boy all these years.  He's got me going with a whole stable now, including the latest - a '74 CB350F.)

Emigrate, keep the bike and move to New Zealand! ;D ;)
Our roads are still relatively unclogged still. :D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

Loony,

remember, you were the first person I contacted when I joined the SOHC4 group, because I have seen your story elsewhere on the web!

Unless, you really need the money or have no space, I would store her, well preserved against rust or other damage, until you feel OK to ride her back.  I bought my CB350f in 2007, it was the bike I was dreaming to have in ...1974!!!  We see almost every day someone parting a CB, those bikes will become even more rare to find, they are a bit of history!  I know, one day I will have to sell her, I hope someone who will care about bike history, will buy her.

Hum...  In english we say "she" for a sailboat, do we say the same for a bike???

Good luck!

Thanks guys. It's not that I've lost interest, but I have other hobbies and I can't see me really enjoying the bike that much over the next few years, all the time its costing me in tax and insurance (in case I ride it) and taking up space in our none to brilliant leanto and more importantly might start to deteriorate if I keep her much longer. I don't have a workshop or the knowledge to restore her if she needed it. So I'd rather she went to someone who'll appreciate her a bit more than I can now.

I know I'd probably never have a CB350F again, but to have owned one for 10 years will have been special, and I hope I can keep in touch with her when she goes to a new owner.

hey girl, i guess i understand but it will really be sad to see you go. it seems like when there was a issue about our little classic bikes, you would post a commet, it's like you are part of 'the team'. what ever you do, keep us in mind, and drop us a line every so often. you don't need a single overhead cam machine to say hi!!

These bikes are like pets.  They become part of the family.  I've seen pictures of guys with these bikes in the living rooms!  Good luck on it, just make sure it goes to an "enthusiast," and not a "stripper."

Snap! I also was inspired to get a 350F in part b/c of you- when I saw one for sale last year I searched youtube and came across the video of yours starting and idling. The of the tank and sound of the tiny four had me at hello. Thanks for the inspiration, I love my 350F.

Aww thanks for the thoughts guys. Don't worry I'll vet the buyer, I think that you tube vid will help create some interest in it! I had a little cry yesterday at the thought of seeing it go. I'll be a mess when it goes I'm sure!! :-[

I've already had a PM from one interested party from here so hopefully it'll get a good owner and you'll still see it in pics on the forums.

I'll be popping in every now and then to say hi too and see if I can see it (or other 350's) about!

 ;)

I'm gonna try and get a last rideout on it hopefully with some friends of mine (scooterists :o) and get some nice pictures with my new SLR camera before it goes too (photography is one of my new hobbies!).
