What "Biker Look" are you?
« on: February 24, 2009, 07:53:09 AM »
Hey everyone. I love the way old school honda's look. I currently wear a full helmet, jeans, and a mesh jacket when I ride the 81CB. I think I look to much like someone that rides a crouch rocket, and that's not me (no pocket rocket either  :P). I seen an advertisement where a guy was wearing a suit and riding an older bike in the desert. He just had a half helmet and shades. To me that looks really cool, but not safe (no jacket/leg protection). So anyway, I was just wanders how you guys look on your CB? What do you think is cool? Sorry if this is the wrong area, also ignore the Hilfiger bottle....

I'm an ATGATT rider.

Full-face helmet, textile jacket, leather gloves, mesh pants, high boots. All purposely made with motorcycle safety in mind.

Don't worry so much about image, you should worry instead that this ride could be your last.

Its not about "the look"though the cafe racers are the coolest. Its about being real.I sometimes where my Joe Rocket Pheonix jacket on my 73 cb750,and know what you mean,I feel like I look like Robocop driving an old pickup.Keep it simple,Jeans, leather boots and Jacket and you cant go wrong.Classic never goes out of style.
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.

I disagree. It is, to a part, about the look. I absolutely love riding and working on my bikes, from which I derive a substantial feeling of accomplishment and personal achievement. I also am not afraid to admit that I love the attention and looks I get when I'm on my bikes. I enjoy myself more when I'm dressed to the 9's than when I look like a schmuck.

Last season I was wearing welder's goggles with shatterproof lenses and an old bandanna as a face mask. This season I will be changing goggles, however, as those affected my peripheral vision.

The safe look when I am on the highway- same as jamil20- short trips get the jeans treatment (still wear my full-face though).

retro cafe style:
jeans
work boots
open face helmet with requisite checkerboard stripe
cheapy Emgo goggles (usually on the top cuz I rock Raybans my in daylight )
the occasional white scarf
and, yes I own at least a dozed checkerboard bandannas for face masks

with modern safety:
CE armored jacket with sedate retro-esque styling (and lotsa patches)
661 downhill MTB gloves with carbon fiber/kevlar knuckle and finger protection
sometimes I break out the Teknic brace/back armor when I feel like doing some "spirited" riding

Simple cool retro style is basically my everyday wardrobe... jeans, workshirts, boots, just add a few flash accessories and you've got the  classic ton up boy look. The modern safety gear is essential for me because I have a great wife and 2 great kids I want to go home to after my ride, and I have to protect myself the best I can from the cagers on their crackberries who just don't see us, yanno.

Icon makes some very cool retro look jackets that look the part AND have modern armor, check them out.

I DO need a nice full face helmet though... maybe a Simpson Bandit or something similarly mean and simple looking.

What up! I am retro, as much as I can anyhoo. Safety is always first priority, then be a character because like jmil20 said it could be your last, I will most likely get a full face helmet this year for the highway rides.

Being active duty, i'm required to be as safe as possible. Full face, armored black leather jacket, gloves, boots, and jeans do it for me. not to mention the safety vest when on base....

I love to ride (dont we all) and especially love to ride "stupid."  Hey, I'm 17, what else is expected.  BUT every time I walk out to throw a leg over my bike, I always make sure I am suited up... Which consists of full-face helmet, joe-rocket jacket w/ full back/spine/shoulder and elbow/forearm pads, alpinestar leather gloves with knuckle protectors, and at the very least dickies w/ high-top vans... my lower-half attire is a bit lacking, but I worry most about my arms/back/head/hands...

But, I do occasionally cruz thru town looking "cool" with my retro open-face (red with checkered pattern up the middle), a pair of tattered jeans, a white tee, and checkered vans to match the helmet.  But thats a rare occasion.

My opinion - I ride to have fun and for transportation, and I ride stupid when in the twisties/outside of town... but when in town, I rarely exceed 5+ over the speedlimit, and I ride incredibly defensive.  I want to be able to wake up tomorrow and ride again rather than being splattered on the pavement with my name in the o#$%*uaries ;)

I just enjoy keeping it simple man.  This pic shows what I wore last season just about all the time and I'll probably repeat it.  When I'm riding around town, going to work etc, I wear a Scorpion full face helmet, high leather boots, jeans, leather gloves with knuckle protection, hoodie and my Hein Gericke riding jacket.  Jacket has no armor but is very thick and padded in the elbows and shoulders.  I took some major risks last season with lack of gear while touring so I'm thinking about getting one of those Teknic brace/back armor fittings for underneath the Hein Gericke and maybe a pair of padded leathers for this seasons long rides.

P.S.  I'm the dude by the way ;D

High top Converse All Stars in Black.  Jeans, Bright red "don't hit me" Hondaline armor jacket off ebay and either a full face for highway or shorty police style in town.  The canvas tops help me feel the shifter better.  Always nice whitey tighties in case the ambulance lady is hot and I want to impress.  ;D

I like the cafe/rocker/punk look.  I think as long as you don't seem to be trying to hard it can't be beat! I want a cool back patch, but I can't find the perfect one/perfect band.  Currently I want a Bad Brains patch, would be appropriate with my new half face helmet! Or a The Accused patch, for when I dispute tickets...

Just to throw in my two cents, I was wearing Dickies pants with skate shoes, padded jacket, gloves, and a full face helmet to work until I got creamed by a car. Everything waist up is fine but my legs/ knees/ feet are jacked up. Motorcycle safety might be expensive or look tacky but it is worth it. My doctor said I would feel the pain in my knees probably for the rest of my life but I am glad I had the rest of myself protected. Could be much worse, idiots like me have to learn the hard way.

I used to wear leather pants. I didn't think I'd like the chaps, but I was given a pair, so started wearing them. They ARE comfortable, especially when the weather's cool. Got rid of the pants.
I've crashed in a 1 piece suit, they do their job well - but I never felt comfortable in it.
I always ride with a bandanna and soft ear plugs, under a full face helmet. The bandanna keeps my throat from getting wind burned (year round) and with ear plugs you actually hear surrounding noises clearer. Plus my ears don't ring after a ride, try it sometime and you'll notice the difference.
Vented full face helmets - OMG what a wonderful invention!

If you were going for the crotch rocket rider look, you'd be wearing the $1,000 Arai helmet with graphics, Corona tank top, shorts and flip-flops.  ::)

For around town riding, I go with army combat boots, heavy denim jeans, the "classic" style leather jacket, Honda leather gloves and half-helmet with goggles.

For longer trips or going on the highway, I'll switch to the Power Trip armored jacket, full-face HJC helmet and chaps.

back when I was a brit bike cafe hoodlum, a 3/4length belstaff jacket, jeans, cowboy boots.
goggles, beanie lid, bandannas as required. then i got a 3/4 length leather bike jacket.
That wore out after 20 years, now
I got another 3/4 length made for cycling jacket, with vents. big pockets. Heavier but not cut as nice as my old one.  Ive had the same leathr jeans for cold weather last 20 years. Black jeans, any one of 50 black bike tshirts, engineer boots, surplus military sweaters, goggles, gauntlets or fingerless BYCYCLE gloves- check em out- bandannas, & a black denim jacket for summer.
Never in my life have I ridden in shorts, or flipflops.
.....the Girl, with over a hundred k on 2 wheels under her belt dresses the part- E German Army pigskin boots, all leather & heavy jeans. No lace. They dont call her Bruiser fer nuttin.....we'd blend right in on "Sons of Anarchy".
