Usually my Vanson perforated leather jacket with armor inserts and vanson pants, but I also have a decent First Racing leather winter jacket with liner, and my all weather jacket is my BMW touring jacket with a bazillion pockets and a cold weather liner insert.

First Gear riding boots, various pairs of gloves depending on the weather but ALL with reinforced knuckles. Full face only helmets, HJC flip up, or KBC VR1 in black chrome.

I have the same problem with being tall and thin 6'2" and 170lbs...that's what I get for being a distance runner lol. Vanson jacket fits me the best everything else is kinda baggy but the chest and arms fit. I have broad shoulders and monkey arms hehe.

That's me on the left...was riding the R1150RT for a day trip to Ticonderoga NY with two friends. A GSXR 600, Sportster and R1150RT all riding together...quite the assortment hehe.

Here is my look after hitting a deer!

I'm curious, what gear were you wearing at the time?

Thick jeans; Vietnam style boots; leather gloves; "Cafe" or "greaser" style leather jacket (I like both of them); and a full helmet.

I want to do the 3/4 helmet look, but I have horrible visions of me draging my jaw on the pavement. :o

full face black fulmer helmet, Duro-Jak police leather jacket, black or thick blue jeans and suede low cut puma driving shoes which will be replaced by proper boots by next season, oh yeah and some black 10 dollar work gloves from wally world.

If you cant tell I like the blacked out look( I get the ricky racer comment or ghost rider thing a lot), Not the best for being visible but I like to look the part when riding my old bike, safety is my #1 thought when I go out at any temperature no matter how short of trip. my dad(a rider since the 70's) gives me crap about wearing the leathers in 70+ degree days but I tell him that its just like a seat belt, I just feel more comfortable with it on.

Another tip from my paintball days, check out some of the paintball sites for neoprene neck protectors, I used to ride on the highways a lot and hated getting hit in the neck with rocks, pulled out the old neck protector and never felt another rock again. plus it helps keep you a little warmer.

Just to throw in my two cents, I was wearing Dickies pants with skate shoes, padded jacket, gloves, and a full face helmet to work until I got creamed by a car. Everything waist up is fine but my legs/ knees/ feet are jacked up. Motorcycle safety might be expensive or look tacky but it is worth it. My doctor said I would feel the pain in my knees probably for the rest of my life but I am glad I had the rest of myself protected. Could be much worse, idiots like me have to learn the hard way.

knee armor is about 25 bucks and can be worn under jeans. most jeans will shred apart, though. I always wear carharts. they're tough as nails. slid on them before after being hit and didn't wear through. in jeans I would've needed skin grafts.

in my opinion people who ride in jeans and t shirts look like douchebags who are desperate to feel cool. same with any other corny get up. I think anyone who is serious about riding a bike will eventually buy real gear. and it doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg and you don't have to look like a japanime character or leather daddy either.

carharts are super comfy actually after broken in. it helps if you are a punk rock scumbag and you live in them for a while. I always take them in cuz I don't like sloppy ass hip hop pants. another tip, if you use hair grease wipe it on your pants every time and after about a month or two they will be waterproof. vegan leather. ;)

lots of cool jackets available in all black with armor. and black full face helmets with black visors make you look like you're riding out to do a hit for the mob. or are a vampire. cool. whatever, point is you can look cool and not have to die in your first wreck. or wish you had.

...I stopped breathing and my hart stopped twice...

...Yes I still ride and yes I do it with the proper gear on now no mater how hot it is...

If there is ever a competition for a safety gear spokesperson, you've gotta be in with a good chance! Glad you're still here. :)

Do you guys in the States have access to these at all,
http://www.dragginjeans.com/

They have Kevlar inserts and some other sort of high resistance material in them and are very good protection..
Another link showing the inserts..  http://www.dragginjeans.net/product/camo%20for%20men%20(unisex)

OK for me when I ride. I usually where my black hawk full face helmet and textile speed and strength jacket with Dickie's or  and my dc skate shoes.  but I sometimes if cruising around town will wear an open face helmet Dickie's my Dickie's jacket and cloves.     but have on occasions put on my father in laws old full leather suit he used to wear when he had a CB750 lol  and man do I get some weird looks.
Keep it shinny side up.

First Gear Mesh-Tex 2.0 jacket and gloves. Plain silver or flat black helmet. If I'm taking a trip, I throw on the Redwing steel toes.

I like the cafe/rocker/punk look.  I think as long as you don't seem to be trying to hard it can't be beat! I want a cool back patch, but I can't find the perfect one/perfect band.  Currently I want a Bad Brains patch, would be appropriate with my new half face helmet! Or a The Accused patch, for when I dispute tickets...

Keep it all in the PNW family and go with Martha Splatterhead I say  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

off topic but I just noticed this! awesome! I grew up with these guys. have been faves since I saw them in thrashers top 100 skate rock bands of all time, back in the late 80's.

another tip: I have a back protector, which is great to have. thing is when you are bent over on the bike it is kind of uncomfortable and looks like your trying to hide your back deformity. mine at least, it wasn't made for the jacket and doesn't fit well. anyways I put it in my backpack which I pretty much always wear. it's a triangle shaped messenger bag type of thing but any backpack and back protector should work as long as you position it right and secure it in there. I have an extra strap I made to keep it on my back in the right position but a normal pack wouldn't have this problem.

no one wants to be paralyzed, right?

and by the way my jacket is plain black leather, but my pack has the backpatch on it. 'discharge' skulls eatin nukes patch. founders of d-beat punk rock ;D and for the PNW segment I have a 'whorehouse of representatives' patch, too. (seattle band) '7 seconds' on the strap cuz I'm all about the positive. despite my angry looks and all black attire.

hmmph, old thread...

here's my standard list of safety equipment-
(1) white t-shirt (for the ladies) ;)
(2) a back pack (my man purse full of tools and such)
(3) skinny jeans (so they don't flap like flags in the wind)   (also for the ladies)
(4) chuck taylors (rubber safety toe)  ???
(5) a skid lid, safety glasses, and face bandana (road dirt hurts my face)
(6) optional fleece hoodie (depending on temperature)

not cause I want to die or become a quad, but cause I can't bring myself to go spend 2 months rent or more on all that modern gear.

i did pick up a full face helmet from a friend, but there's no face shield and fulmer doesn't sell online.

I haven't found a leather (riding) jacket I like yet.
they're all too big in the chest and not designed to be worn while in the fetal position.

come to think of it, I pretty much wear what I have on and just ride.
unless it's shorts and flipflops, that's just asking for it.
