Did you take the motor completely apart to paint it, or did you just tape it off?

I just taped it off, it's not the best way to do it but I don't have the space really to tear the motor completely down.

mwwwuuuhahahhah. Tanks are done but I don't have pics yet sadly as I can't pull them off my phone. But I do have pics of the motor back in the frame!

Alright I was able to grab the pics off my phone.

Well I'm going to pick up the tanks then go to see the premier for Harbortown Bobber. I'm going to attempt to have it running by this weekend, but that all depends on whether or not I can get fittings for the oil tank.

Also here is some info on that harbortown bobber movie, it sounds interesting.

LOVE the direction you are taking with this...

Each piece looks like it is going to fit together perfectly as a complete ride

Well I finally got the tanks back and got them set on the bike. All I need now are chain, front sprocket, plumbing for oil tank, battery, and a regulator rectifier and it should be rideable.

Well after moving about 1,200 miles to Austin, Texas. I have finally started to get to the point where I can work on the bike again. I was able to finally find fittings and hoses for my oil tank. After all of that I finally got the new motor started, it runs without any smoke and doesn't appear to leak any oil! I either need just replace the entire points plate or replace the other point. Because it still doesn't really want to rev or idle. Anyways here is a video of me starting it the other day.

cool! I dig square headlights.

you a seattle supersonics fan?

I've never ridden a hardtail. I would consider building something similar, but I'm afraid I wouldn't really want to ride it. I'm not a wuss and don't need the smoothest ride, but is it even practical to go to the next town over or is it just to the bar and back?

I need a bike that can do stuff.

I guess what I'm asking is will you actually ride this to work and on road trips or is it just for show? I always figured hardtails were just to look at mostly. I could be wrong. I just never see anyone riding them.

looks very cool.

The paint job is just what ever the guy decided to do. I didn't really say anything other then I wanted metal flake.

As for riding a hard tail, I'm sure it's just fine. I mean it's definitely not going to be as nice as a bike with suspension. But you have to remember that bikes up to the 50s didn't have any rear suspension at all. I will definitely be riding this bike everywhere, it just won't be hauling ass through the twisties or anything like that. The only thing that would suck about riding it for a long time is not having fenders or a windscreen.

I need to ride one to see what it's like.

it definitely looks cool. it's just nice and clean, and like you said pre-50's. and I think it looks killer w/ the stock 750 tank, there's another one w/ a sk8 wheel chain tensioner on here w/ hardtail and stock honda tank as well.

I've seen bikes that have the same look w/ cleverly hidden suspension. but that's a lot of extra work...

Well after about 4 months of getting nothing done. The project is finally nearing completion.

Fender is mounted, I will be cutting this fender down then sending it off for gold metal flake
rear wheel is all setup, rear brake working finally, license plate is on, axel adjusters on
battery box is mounted with Oregon cycles regulator/rectifier mounted on front
Carbs have been sonic tanked and rebuilt.

Basically all thats left is the wiring harness and putting a chain on it. Should be done early next month! Just in time for the Riot Over Texas rally!

Awesome, I'm sure you will notice it as there are approximately 0 hard tail 750s in town. Also me and the bike will be at this during the rot rally if you feel like coming by.

http://theworkingmansmotorcycleandartsh.blogspot.com/

And a bonus, some videos of the bike actually running and idling correctly for the first time since I have owned it.

Ready for ridin!

The only issue we have right now is the oil overflow tube is spitting oil. So we have to work out what we will be doing about that I guess.

Hey Vault,  Bike looks Great and sounds awesome!  are you running Pods on the Carbs?  I couldn't quite tell in the last video.  and since you are running those short, open, pipes... what jet size do you have?  It sounds like it's all meshing together nicely.

Very nice!
But I need Tacos!  I need them or I will explode!

Man that bike is really sweet lookin. I like it a lot. Love the hard tail. I do have to say I like the bike with out any fenders. I know it's not practical, but I just love how it looks with out the rear fender on. Maybe I'll change my mind when you put paint on it but I just think it looks real sexy fenderless.

Yeah it has pods on it. The mains are 120s.

The chain is supposed to be here this week. So I should be able to ride it around a bit. Then I just have to cut the fender, get a tank latch, and probably a new petcock.

First ride!!!!!!

Sorry for the terrible video, it's pretty hard to hold a phone and ride at the same time. A few things to note, I think my petcock is clogged/messed up as 1&2 aren't firing very well. Chris from limey said that it ran fine on the test tank. Secondly I think it has to much oil as it still is throwing oil out of the overflow. I also cut the fender down finally.

Took it to a small car show this past weekend. People seem to be very interested in it which is nice.

Finally figured out most of its issues, was able to drag it over to Austin moto classics where they were nice enough to let me mess with it on their porch. Reemed the mains out to about 135s and it runs a ton better. Also spliced in some new spark plug wire with a NGK plug wire splice kit. Still need to go up on the slowjets as their are to small. So beyond some small tuning issues it's pretty much there.

It is however incredibly loud when you get on it. Which I and the guys at moto classics found hilarious.
