What is all required for the dual disk swap for the 550?
« on: January 15, 2008, 06:32:12 AM »
Well i have done a couple searches trying to find more info on doing a dual disk swap to the front of my 550 but cant seem to find anything that really gives clear details...i see the odd reference here and there..maybe im not using the correct search terms...Anyways...What is all required to do a dual disk swap on this thing? The main area im wondering about is the front hub...Do i reuse the stock hub or am i searching for a different hub? I know that im going to need a T fitting for the brake lines as well as a new Master cyl since the stock single disk brake one is not strong enough..but i was planning on using a master cyl from an Aprilla sport bike anyways because of said dual disks...What all do i need and what donors do i get the needed parts from?

Most importantly you need the front fork that has the mirrored ears and bosses for the caliper.

And you need a complete brake assembly just like the one on your left hand fork. And a duplicate rotor.

Then you need longer bolts to go through the hub and hold both rotors on. And then you need the appropriate small diameter speedo housing to retain the speedo. Other than that, basically a bolt on, no problem swap.

here's a visual:

longer rotor mounting bolts, a little cutting on the tach drive mount, and a second of everything on the left side and you're in business.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but I've tracked down all the necessary pieces except for a few..

I need a new MC, and hose/fittings to connect it all together.  I would like to find/run a NEW MC, but am not sure if thats possible.  As far as I know, I need a MC that with a certain bore dia. and so long as it matches (or is close) to that dia, I should have a solid set-up, yes?

And fittings/lines.  Is this something I need to sort out locally?  Or are the fittings found online somewhere, etc? thanks
