Petcock for CR750 tank
« on: July 27, 2009, 08:25:57 AM »
Hi All,

I've bought a CR750 alloy tank from Bartel and have in contact with a number of shops in my search for a petcock that will fit. I've searched this forum and the correct petcock might be one from pingel, but I'm not completely sure.

Product names, links to products that will fit will, etc. be appreciated a lot.

I've included a picture of the sump below.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

Peter

what is the spacing on those screws? looks like it will take a 1969 to 1973 stock honda petcock to me.

The one I got came from Bartels, I think it's from one of the old Mx bikes.

another solution is to make a simple 10mm alluminum plate/adapter , make a thread in the center and so you can use any petcock you want.

Have you checked Pingle petcocks?

BTW, is that number plate austrian? if yes you should get in contact with Mec.

Hi All,

Thanks a lot for all your replies.

Mine is not bought from Bartel. I talked to him  (Nice fellow) but he had a long waiting time, which is why I bought the tank at meadspeed (and they didn't had a matching petcock).

I think one of the guys at the forum uses an pingle on his CR750, but I think it is the tank in glass fibre without the sump.

Geeto: I've measured the spacing between the two screws and its 3,3 cm (which is 1,29 inch). See my method of measurement on the enclosed pic.

Samcr750: Thanks for the tip. Do you know anything about which MX it might come from?

Turboguzzi: I would prefer to get a stock one. But I could make an adaptor plate of some sort. By the way the number plate is Danish.

Thanks in advance all.

Regards,

Peter

I was just about to take a guess at Danish going off your email address but you beat me to it. :D :D :D :D :D :D

Re the P/C, I've no idea Peter, they had them in stock when they made the tank, I guess you could contact Asa and ask if he has any left.

I'm sure someone will be able to tell you though as quite a few on here have built them since I did the one in my avatar.

I have the same tank and use a works twin outlet magnesium petcock on mine...so that's no help is it?!

I remember having the petcock discussion with Asa Moyce when I bought the tank and I'm sure he said it was the one of a CR500 m/x bike. When I bought one it was nowhere near so maybe it has to be a specific model.

One way around is to make a boss to screw onto the tank which leaves a male threaded outlet which you can then screw a fast flowing CB900 tap to.

I did a few searches on google for "outlet magnesium petcock" with no clear leads but thanks for the tip. I'll try and do some more one of the days.

I contacted Meadspeed yestoday and they told me that a Honda 125/250 moto cross petcock would fit. Any ideas on whether this is true?

Samcr750: Does Asa work at Bartels - or?

Best regards,

Peter

It might work ubt may be best getting a cheapy from ebay to check.
Asa Moyce runs Bartel engineering and just so you know, your meadspeed tank is made by Asa - he supplies them. Add it all up and you already have a bartel tank :-)

From the Meadspeed website:
"The CR250 or CR500 Motocross 1970-80 fuel tap is suitable for this tank."
