Topic: Oil Tank position

So I got this oil tank that I am trying to decide how to mount.

I prefer to run it laterally, between the carbs so as to "hide" it.  However, should I be concerned about the heat from the tank as it is basically right up against the mainifolds??

Is this a stupid question with as much resolve as the oil cooler debate???

Will putting beer labels on it because it looks like a keg help cool the oil??

this oiltank seems too small. the capacity should be approx. 3.5L oil .
you are doing no good to the engine with less oil.
option two is better cause of better cooling.

I have been running a quart low with my small Bobber tanks for years.  Modern oils with frequent changes can take the stress.  These engines have lasted thousands of miles and years of storage with poor to no maintenance.  Worse case scenario, you burn one up and have to install another for $175.00.

Agreed.  The farther away from the hot engine, the better.  Especially when considering the reduction in oil volume.

As far as capacity, it is 3 quarts, but really 2.75ish without over-flowing.  Figure in a little more capacity in the longer oil lines lets call it 2.85

I was wondering what it'd look like if you altered the #2 position by moving the tank back against the inner fender.  You'd gain some cooling and even longer lines, plus you'd crowd your carbs a little less which just might allow better airflow into them.

If you moved it back against the fender, you could even fit a small cooler behind the carbs on the frame rails. you wouldnt get a ton of air flow, but it would dissipate heat and increase capacity

position #2 wont make it quite so hard to get to the chain tensioner too.
