How hard to hack this?

With the price of pipes surpassing the entire cost of my bike I'm desperate for a alternative. This 750 exhaust came up and I'm just debating if it's worth the hassle or even a possibility on my 550.

As for hacking an exhaust... I was thinking the same. I have a spare set of 4 exhuast, and was thinking of making a 4-1.. buying a merge collector, and going from there.

750s run a fatter header. no go for a 550. but cone engineering makes collectors to mod the 550 pipes.

I'll agree with scartail, don't hack a vintage part without trying to swap it for a the correct part first.

And to offset murphy's law, make the claim that you have just hacked the pipes to make them fit your bike.....so that the member with the correct pipes that would offer them to you only after the fact, will present himself.  Then make your swap.  I've seen this one in action, and it does actually work.
