Hi there,

I have been stalking these forums for a week or so and I like it, lot's of info, and pretty friendly people as well it seems.

I don't even have a bike yet (well, I have a totally rad Honda Melody 50cc scooter I was given for free :) ), which is why I have been having a good read. I want to get an older bike for my first (real) bike, I love the older styles, and I like the idea that it would be technology that I can handle, ie sans computers / tricky electrics etc.

I am pretty sure I will go for a CB550, seems to be a well balanced bike, not too heavy to start off with but has a few options for power-ups available later on. Plan is to keep it stock for a while to get comfortable and safe on a motorbike - I am pretty good on two wheels, but only of the you-provide-the-power-yourself-type. After that I'll start a cafe-style rebuild, for enjoyment and to get my bike mechanics skills up. I just started Uni part-time and my reward for when I finish in 4-5 years is that I'll take some time out to do a ride to Europe. (You may have noticed I am a fan of travelling from my username :) ). If I am still in one piece once I hit Europe I may even come back via Africa. Improving my mechanics skills are for the trip.

So, I just need to find a low cost one over here in Oz (I wish they were as thick on the ground here as they appear to be in the US). If you happen to know of one in NSW, even one in a shed somewhere, feel free to let me know! :)

I look forward to being part of the community! :)

Just wanted to say hi from the other side of the world. I'm new on this site too but it is great, nice people and great information. Hope you find a good bike to start out with and good luck in your travels. Some day I'd love to see the Land Down Under.

Hello from Brazil my friend.  ;D
Speaking of balanced bikes, take a look at the 400F as well!

Thanks!

Actually, I came across a 550F frame pretty cheap so I'll try doing it this way. The next few months will probably be quiet due to the state of my wallet though! :)
