Need some suggestions.
« on: March 06, 2009, 07:45:50 PM »
Ok, I am now in the market for another cheap bike.  I am looking for an old cruiser/standard style bike that I could pick up in the $1,000 - $1,500 range, or less.  While I am generally not a cruiser guy, my girlfriend would like to start coming along when I go out riding with friends(friendly rides with my chopper buddies, not the rides with my sports bike riding buddies) so the primary focus is a cheap, reliable bike, with a nice comfy passenger seat, preferably with a back rest for her, and I am definatley NOT interested in getting a goldwing.  I'm thinking possibly an older Honda Shadow or something along those lines, I'm also thinking of getting something I could "rat" out a bit, since I do like the rat bikes :D

So anyone have any good suggestions for cheap & reliable bikes that would fit the bill.  I'm looking for different models, as well as years, I'm also thinking I would like an old Honda just for the reliabilies sake :D   I'm also gonna be keeping my eye on Craigslist for the next couple of months, but if anyone knows of anything for sale in Minneapolis area feel free to let me know.

Actually, I found an 82 CB750 for $950 with 21,000 miles on it.  I'm thinking I'll go take a look at it this weekend, anyone know of any common problems to check for on this bike?

None that I'm aware of, although I haven't been around those models as long as some folks have. Mine is an 80' CB750K, is pretty comfortable and a pretty good runner as well. Might ought to get opinions form some folks who are more familiar with them though. ;)

The '80s Nighthawks are pretty big, comfy, and reliable, from what I've heard.
